Re: [MBZ] W124 Fog Lights 83 300D
On the subject of fog lights, I bought a pair of proper size foglights from FLAPS for my '83 300D. When I got home and tried to install them, they were not sealed beam but had removable bulbs and would not attach to supporting structure for the old sealbeams, and the bulb assbly was wire in rather than plug in. Do the old sealed beams have to be special ordered someplace, or would I be likely to find the small sealed beams if I keep checking with local dealers? No spring compressor is required, even though the book call for one. Did this on my '85 wagon when I rebuilt the rear suspension. Loosen strut connection at control arm. Bleed off pressure in SLS system. Lift the back of the car until all pressure is off the springs, pull them out. Need to be able to lift the rear fairly high. [MBZ] Oil Dip Stick Question 2004 E320 4matic
Hi All, I know that 2004 E320 4matic doesn't come with an oil dip stick but I read that one could be purchased so I researched and bought one that was supposed to work. I chose one made by a company named Kommen - Model #KM808-M. I changed the oil a few days ago and completely drained the oil and replaced with exactly 8.5 quarts of Mobil 1. My issue is that the instructions for the dip stick say that for my Mercedes should have high level reading of 16.8 cm and a low reading being 14.8 cm. My measurement reads 11.0 cm and I am not sure why. I did an electronic check with the car's computer and it comes back OK. Any suggestions? Has anyone purchased a Genuine Mercedes Dip Stick? Re: [MBZ] Oil Dip Stick Question 2004 E320 4matic
And I take it the car was parked level? This dipstick is for various engines so there are different instructions for different engines? From what I can see there are two possibilities, either the dipstick is wrong or the oil level is low. I don't think this company would go to the trouble of selling a tool that is wrong, mistakes do happen but oil level is pretty critical and they probably sell quite a few of these, so would be aware if there is a problem. That brings back memories of my boleadoras, which I only threw once. I'd seen a National Geographic special on some savages that hunted birds with them and made a set out of small stones and dental floss. Landed on the back window of Mom's Rambler, and though the stones were rather small, the spinning seemed to impart extra impact, shattered the whole window. Since it was safety glass it was still there, but effectively the whole window was opaque. Dad reported it to insurance as 'kid throwing stones' and it processed as a zero deductible comprehensive claim. A friend of mine got together with his brother and washed their dad's new car for a surprise. They used their mom's Brillo pads to get it good and clean. They said it looked great when it was wet, or they wouldn't have done every square inch of the car that way. That little act of kindness earned them the worst butt-whipping of their lives. Mitch. Re: [MBZ] Oil Dip Stick Question 2004 E320 4matic
Robert Koziak wrote: I was curious if it reads ok until it reaches the low level. Is there any way electronically to get an oil quantity reading? Oh, you were asking how to get the reading? Turn the key to 'on' but not to 'start', and leave it that way for 30 seconds or so until it says 'display oil level?', then tap the 0 button twice in quick succession. About a month ago, mine hit low (add 2 qts) right after I left the office. After it warmed up, I pulled over and it was add 1.5. Drove it home and parked it, figuring I'd change the oil after tax season was over. I've driven it about 100 miles in warmer weather since then, and never saw the low oil message again. It was at add 1.5 when I checked it just now. I filled it to just under a quart low when I changed it 7000 miles ago, and the FSS is saying I need to change it in another 5100 miles. Remember how Marshall used to say ideal level was right between the add and full lines on a dipstick? I've been filling the e320 by dumping in 7 quarts, running it a bit, letting it sit, and dumping about 8oz in at a time until it quit saying to add a quart. Try drcolorchip.com Their relatively thick rub-on paint system may fill it in... I actually just ordered some of their kits for my Caledonia Green 300D and my Horizon Blue 280SEL 4.5, since the original touch-up sticks are NLA from MBUSA. I haven't tried the kits yet, but the colour looks correct. D. On 4/23/14, Kaleb wrote: I discovered the 5 year old decided to take a thumb tack to the hood and fender of my black 97 e300. Re: [MBZ] sls troubles
Yes. Dead easy. Just be careful about corrosion: aluminium and salt are a bad combo, so you may find that you have stripped threads, esp the bleed valve. Might want to give everything a good soaking with Liquid Wrench in case it helps. Also, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you remove the control lever from the valve shaft. Disconnect the lever from the linkage, but leave it attached to the shaft or you'll disturb the designed relationship between the position of the lever and the control disc inside the valve.
