[MBZ] Best oil trader says oil prices may plunge some more

2015-02-12 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
The best oil traders in the business say this rout is not over

Financial Post Wednesday 11th February, 2015

The slump in oil prices may not be over, according to Goldman Sachs Group
Inc.

The decline in the number of U.S. drilling rigs that's helped crude futures
in New York rebound 14% from this year's low isn't enough to reduce an
oversupply, the U.S. bank said in a note dated Feb. 10. Lower prices are
needed for American output to slow sufficiently to rebalance global
markets, it said.

Goldman joins Citigroup Inc. and Vitol Group, the world's biggest
independent oil trader, in signaling prices may resume a decline amid
unrelenting production growth. West Texas Intermediate crude is still down
by half from last year's peak as the U.S. pumps the most in three decades.
While companies have idled rigs and cut spending, it will be some time
before production is affected, according to the International Energy Agency.

Re: [MBZ] OT - Rising fuel prices

2015-02-12 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
We have local farmer's market that is very much like a Costco or Sams Club.
It's huge and sells everything in bulk. They have a produce section that has
stuff I've never heard of before. Their meat is fantastic and easily 20%
cheaper than Costco or Sams, and it fresher.

They're owned by an Asian family and the products heavily favor Asian and
Indian cultures, but we go there for the deals.

Now a store credit will still give them some profit on my expenditure, so it

How much does the membership cost? I still don't feel like I could save enough
to ever make it worth it...
That and the average Costco shopper pisses me off nearly as much as a
Wal-Martian.
Actually the worst, after the Wal-Martians are people at Trader Joe's. People

Meats are very good and prices lower than the grocery store.  Fruits are
very good too.  Wine prices lower than the wine or grocery store.
Yesterday I was went by the TV section, I see this Sony receiver I
bought a coupla weeks ago for $60 off.  So I go over to the customer
service counter and asked if I could get a $60 refund, did not have my
receipt as no reason to.  She says I have 14 days, when did I buy it?
It was like 2 weeks ago.  So she looks up my account on the computer,
sees it was 15 days ago.  Oh come on I say... so she says how about I
give you a store credit for $60? Fine I say and she gives me a debit
card.  Took all of 2 minutes, so my payoff was like $1800/hr!  I'll be
back next week buying something, so no problem.

Now a store credit will still give them some profit on my expenditure,
so it does not really cost them $60, but still that is great customer
service.  I got the Executive membership too, which gives you 2% back,
which is always more than it costs.  When I signed up for it the CSR
told me if I never got enough back, to come in and they would give me
credit to make up the difference, so basically a free membership.  I
think that works with the AMEX card too but I don't do credit cards.

Ours is convenient for gas for both my and the wife's commute. As for other
stuff, laundry detergent is probably one item, as is wine for the wife. There
are some good food deals, but nothing I would otherwise go out of the way for.

I wandered through the place yesterday morning around 10:30 and there was
hardly a soul in the place. I can't imagine what it's like on the weekends.

The Arlingon, VA Costco is a veritable United Nations of diverse cultures.

Re: [MBZ] W210 Opinions?

I do at that, however, it sounds like the seller has unrealistic expectations
of its value. They're looking for $10k.

Far too rich for my tastes.

You probably don't want one this old, but here is a VERY nice 126. This is

somebody is seriously interested. If it was a 420 or 560, I would have

 overworked in this size car.

 Definitely cool.

Does anyone have particular opinions about the car I posted the link to?

I think the seller is a bit optimistic about the price, as they're not
selling for that kind of money around here, nor are the price guides showing
 it in that range, either.

I'm running into the difficulty you had when replacing the hose. I
have to repair the teeth on the upper alternator housing - the part
that engages the toothed bolt. The teeth in the alt bracket are
gone and I plan to repair them but to do that I'll need to remove
the York AC Compressor and probably the Alternator and bracket as
well.

I considered removing the compressor completely but it still has gas
in it after 3 years of not being used so it's a tight system. But
we never use it so I may as well...

Good luck!
Larry

You should be able to unbolt the compressor with hoses attached from
the bracket, then tie it back. That way you don't have to open a
good sealed system.

Also, my memory is not clear, but I'd look very carefully from
underneath. I am pretty sure it is possible to remove the alt and
brackets from under the car. It should be much easier than messing
with that dogawful bracket and disturbing a working york.

That store has NO parking, the lot is probably about a third the size of
ours here. I usually park out at the end of all the cars with a few
spaces to spare, and walk in, and be a good citizen by grabbing a
trolley as I go in. The Mipsies in their large vehicles seem to be
better behaved than other places I have been but you still gotta watch
out for them as they seem to be compelled to start yakking and texting
on their cell phones as soon as they get in the car, or as soon as they
unload their impedimenta. The geezers are all cruising for a spot close
to the door that takes them 4 tries to get into while clogging commerce.

I too see a diversified clientele (such as it is here) loading up on
stuff that looks like it is for a restaurant or something. They tend to
be there first thing in the morning. I should find out where they have
their places.

Personally, people can piddle around all they want, I doubt all the
handwringing will have any impact on climate change. This stuff has been
going on for eons, and humans have not had an impact on it in the past 4.5
billion years. For 15 thousand years people probably have been dancing
about, imploring gods, getting holy people to implore for the seas to not
envelope their village. It does not stop ice ages, mini ice ages, deserts
growing, swamps drying, Romans from invading, white folk from bringing
filthy blankets to kill 80% of the natives, Volcanos from going off, or
tsunamis from washing away nuke plants or tourists.

Hubris is all that accounts for the idea that humans can have an impact on
anything on a global or local scale. Mudslides will flow, rains will fall,
the sun will shine. Sharks will eat folks, tribes will defecate in their
nests, teenage girls will get knocked up, and a thousand years from now, it
will all matter not one whit.

I'll add a simple tidbit to this discussion.  When I was in school many decades
ago, the prevailing scientific view was that the Earth was still coming out of
the last ice age and would be for many more centuries.  Now, these scientists
had no money making, vested interest in what the warming state was.
Personally, from the weather I've seen in my lifetime, I still agree with those
scientists that the Earth is still coming out of the last ice age and will
continue to warm.  It could be worse and we could be going back into our next
ice age cycle.  Although, if Washington DC were covered with a glacier and the
federal government couldn't wreak havoc on our lives, that might not be a bad
thing.  Sorry Andrew, you'd have to move to a warmer, more conservative part of
the country or world.
Like everyone else, this is just my opinion, no more valuable or less valuable
than anyone else's.

Re: [MBZ] Best oil trader says oil prices may plunge some more

2015-02-12 Thread clay via Mercedes
Shell oil just got ok to base their AK drilling/exploration rig gear in
Seattle. That means three years of investment to find off shore oil in Chukchi
sea and off ANWAR. The easy to cycle flows are being pulled back to mitigate
in the short term, but long view is that oil goes back once Obama and his
idiots are gone. The easy pickings are over, and the recent short term
situation is not going to do much good for anybodies economy. Keystone will
not die, the Saudis will once more be making good cash on their reserves, and
Putin will have to hold his nose for a while until Europe is suckling at his
teat. Small driverless cars will take over the roads, and the cost of food
will rise. Mercedes will continue to make cars, and people will keep filling
tanks

The slump in oil prices may not be over, according to Goldman Sachs Group
 Inc.

The decline in the number of U.S. drilling rigs that's helped crude futures
in New York rebound 14% from this year's low isn't enough to reduce an
oversupply, the U.S. bank said in a note dated Feb. 10. Lower prices are
needed for American output to slow sufficiently to rebalance global
 markets, it said.

Goldman joins Citigroup Inc. and Vitol Group, the world's biggest
independent oil trader, in signaling prices may resume a decline amid
unrelenting production growth. West Texas Intermediate crude is still down
by half from last year's peak as the U.S. pumps the most in three decades.
While companies have idled rigs and cut spending, it will be some time
before production is affected, according to the International Energy Agency.

Re: [MBZ] OT - Rising fuel prices

2015-02-12 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Oil is on the bounce, its up around $5 which is about 10%. As always the price
of gas rises immediately where on the downward side it went down begrudgingly.
Gas Buddy's chart suggests that the price of gas stayed higher than it should
have given the price of oil.http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_retail_price_chart.aspx
