The check strap on my wagon failed soon after I bought her (at 29,000
miles). It wasn't the strap itself but the mounting point on the door
pillar itself which fractured. We've lived with an ugly welding repair
ever since.

Probably bad solder joints on the circuit board inside at the relay,
this is the hottest part.
Could also be a bad relay, never tried to replace just the relay
itself on the board. Mine was burnt up by a bad AC clutch.
