Re: [MBZ] Nice BAT Auction
Might not have been their fault (did not read the ad so if they said it was, I am out of line?). My poor old mother in law celebrated her 87th yesterday. We went out to the hospital where she is in a geriatric rehab program to get her back on her feet so she can go back to where she was living. She fell and broke her elbow a month or more ago and has just had the cast off so now she needs some therapy in order to be able to use her walker. In any event, on our way home after this, last evening, I literally dodged a bullet. A young fellow driving a late model Dodge van crossed a number of lanes at high speed into my lane. I don't know how he missed me. I saw him coming out of the corner of my eye and hit the brakes and moved left as much as I could and he slid into the lane in front of me. I very much doubt that he knew I was there until I hit the horn. Wierd. How does one not see a red F150 Supercrew in daylight??? I am very happy that my truck was not wrecked. Re: [MBZ] 300 SDL Front Transmssion Pump leaking
I have transmission fluid leaking from my '87 300 SDL, had a garage check this out and they identified it was the Torque Converter leaking. Replaced the seal in the converter, now they state the front trans. pump is leaking. What are they up against Thanks, Ralph, Idiocy? It's more-or-less SOP, when dropping the tranny to replace a seal, to do all the ones that are now easy to reach. Front seal, pump seal, etc. Maybe even consider engine's rear main seal at that time. Re: [MBZ] Front window scraper remove and install - W123 300TD
I don't recall doing window scrapers on a W124, but on the W123 and W126 the outer scraper is clipped to the outer window sill moulding. The scraper itself can be pulled up and out of the clip on both the inside and outside. The clips are very, very strong, and you might find yourself pulling the trim up with it, as the clip is clipped to the trim as well. I liked pulling the trim off, as it allowed me to clean underneath, which is usually horribly messy. The inner scraper was similarly clipped on to the inner door panel, which you don't have to remove. Another reason why I liked pulling the trim and inner door panel to do this is that on some occasions you would push the clips down and out of reach when attempting to install the new scraper. Where did you end up getting your window scrapers? Wow, I sure didn't expect that; being called an idiot! If you were doing your own wrenching, I apologize. If you were using a 'trained' mechanic, then HE is the idiot! It was explained to me, back when my tranny needed servicing, that IF you take it out you ALWAYS replace those then-easy seals, because the parts and incremental labor are cheap. And you _don't_ want to have to pull it again the next year. Or month. After all, if one is already leaking the others may not be far behind. The rear seal can be done in-car, so there's no need to do that one unless it _is_ leaking. He didn't seem to know how the pump could be removed. If I recall correctly, and yours is anything like mine, it's four bolts right on the front. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] 300 SDL Front Transmssion Pump leaking
Ralph, I think he was referring to the mechanic. If you're dropping the transmission, which one would have to do in order to check the TC, you would also expect to closely inspect the front (pump) cover as its exposed and easy to reach at that time. If there's the slightest hint of seepage/leakage, one would expect to replace the pump gaskets and seals. It's a quick, easy and inexpensive jib to do under those circumstances. I would be looking for another mechanic. Re: [MBZ] Front window scraper remove and install - W123 300TD
Yes, but do it carefully so that you don't bent it. If you do, it could end up with a curl in it that makes it tough to get fully seated again. I highly recommend the use of plastic body filler spreaders/scrapers to get under this sort of thing to pry it up. You won't damage the paint that way, and with them inserted underneath the trim, if you need more leverage you can use a metal tool on top of the plastic scraper, if that makes sense. On the chassis' mentioned previously, I always started from the back edge (strike side) of the door, as the trim was widest and strongest there. This made it less likely to bend or distort while pulling up on the trim piece. Re: [MBZ] 300 SDL Front Transmssion Pump leaking
He called me and said that the front pump was leaking but he did not know how much of a job it would be to replace. He was going to do some research and see what was involved. I said I would check with the discussion group and see if I could get any help for him. He didn't seem to know how the pump could be removed. Thanks. Randy sez: Wierd. How does one not see a red F150 Supercrew in daylight??? Canada may be different, but as I explained to both of my sons as they were learning to drive; 75% of all drivers on the road right now are distracted. They are 1. Texting/surfing the Web. 2. Talking on the phone. 3. Talking/yelling at passengers 4. On medication that impares there judgement and motor skills. 5. Taking illicit substances that impare them. 6. Are angry, depressed, or some other emotional state that impares them. 7. Fiddling with the radio. 8. Need their vision corrected, but don't have proper eye wear. 9.
