Those would be stationary. The F series has timing advance for vehicle use. They told me it meant Fahrtzoid The fahr part is understandable. I can't interpret the rest of the word. The meaning is roughly intended for vehicular use. Herr Gabard could probably give a better explanation. Diesel has dropped down here, too. Benzine has remained stable, in the 2.40/gallon range, but diesel seems to be flirting with prices in the high $2.50s. Deutz makes some BA air cooled diesels. Darned near indestructible, and easy to work on. The only diesel engine that holds a candle to them is Lister. I paid $2.95 today because I was running late and I knew this particular station would be the fastest to get in and out of. The cheapest option was $2.79, fortunately the Jetta only needs 12 gallons nearly totally empty. Also fortunately this station has the best quality fuel which gives the best mileage, not enough to make up for the price differential but a couple extra MPGs are always nice, this should be a 55mpg tank. -Curt From: Max Dillon via Mercedes mercedes@okiebenz.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Cc: Max Dillon dillonm...@gmail.com Sent: Friday, July 17, 2015 9:09 AM Subject: Re: [MBZ] Chevrolet Colorado Diesel Promises Best-in-Class Towing, Torque What is a BA, Dan? Sadly both Trump and Walker are nuts and exceptionally good at making bad decisions. Trump takes chances and regularly goes bankrupt, can't do that with a country... Walker tells people one thing, then does another, ie he sets up labor deals and then breaks them so his corporate buddies can get big kickbacks rather than paying taxes... Its the idiots that go to a big name school spending $40,000 a year for a degree in humanities or something else with no market value. Like anything you need to do some research, your heart is a terrible guide to these things... My alma-mater (Fitchburg State University) costs not a ton more now than it did when I graduated. I spent about $6,500 a year including room and board. A couple years ago I was working with a guy who graduated Emerson about the same time I did but he spent around 2x what I did. We had the same basic degree, were doing the same job, making the same money but I paid off my student loans 5 years early... -Curt From: Kaleb C. A college degree imparts nothing if the owner of the degree parks his butt on the degree and waits for magic to come to him because he has it.. It seems that may be the case with many who hold student loans for their degree in liberal underwater basket weaving, or social victimology [snark full on]. Re: [MBZ] Trump card Was: Chevrolet Colorado Diesel Promises Best-in-Class Towing, Torque
Soros has a big house in the Hamptons, next door to a friend of a friend, also next door to Roger Waters's house there. My friend has attended gatherings at which Soros has been, and he always appears with one of his young nieces. My buddy and I went to an event in Houston where Soros spoke (sponsored by The Progressive Forum) as my buddy wanted me to get some first-hand exposure to the guy. It was a fascinating evening hearing him speak in sort of a QA format (questions by the moderator then by some audience members). [BTW way I have met the friend of the friend, who is Czech, and whose family endured the hardships of the Nazis and the commies, and who managed to come to the US, get educated, and make a LOT of money -- he is a very nice guy, very smart, and quite savvy about people. He consorts with Soros occasionally to see what he is about, and also to keep tabs on what he is up to in his various political and business efforts) Soros is completely amoral, which became abundantly apparent from his answers to questions. One audience member asked him how he came to be like that (might not have actually asked him why we was amoral, but that was the gist of the question) and he related a story: His father had been captured by the Russians during WW2 and sent to Siberian prison camp. He managed to escape and over a period of a few months and returned to Budapest (I think it was) where he and George, themselves Jews, started ratting out Jews to the Nazis in exchange for money and whatever. George said he asked his father what he did to make it back, and the father replied, Whatever it took and that was the lesson George used in his own life. So, not only was he complicit in the murders of many Jews by the Nazis during the war, he continued/s his amoral practices in his business dealings and in his various progressive endeavors. Soros made on apologies for any of this, in fact seemed somewhat proud of it as he did whatever it took. One other interesting exchange was with a young guy from West Texas who had come to the meeting to see for himself what Soros was about. He stated this in his question, then asked why Soros was opposed to guns when he had seen what happened to people in the war who could not defend themselves, and who had been subjugated by the Nazis. Soros started some song and dance about well I'm not really opposed blah blah and the kid just would not let him worm out of it. The kid sounded like a total West Texas goober but he was quite smart and very tenacious. At some point he referenced the gun he had in his pocket and I thought a lot of the audience was going to soil their pants right then and there. This goes back and forth for a few minutes, the kid had Soros all tied up and basically told him in a very firm and polite way that he was evil and a hypocrite, and the audience was going crazy, a lot of the old hippies yelling at the kid who threw it right back at them. it was on the verge of getting way out of control and the moderator finally shut everyone up, Soros made a few smartass comments that got the base cheering, but the old hippies were still mouthing off about the gun-totin kid who cleaned Soros mighty well. Soros is a truly evil person. --R On 7/17/15 10:35 AM, Curly McLain via Mercedes wrote: Curt sez: Sadly both Trump and Walker are nuts and exceptionally good at making bad decisions. The boy attends the University of South Florida's St. Petersburg campus. Tuition for a semester runs between $2000-$3000 including books, depending on his class load. So call it $7500/year. Very affordable. We have friends whose daughter graduated from Brown and is now in law school at the University of Houston. They once told me that tuition at Brown cost them around $45k/year. I could never get my head around that. Wilton, I know that pulling the KLIMA relay will disable the AC compressor, that is located right behind the battery and fairly easy to get to, but may be pretty tight in the socket. A firm grip and gentle working while pulling up should free it. I don't know if a failing push-button unit would still blow the fuse if the KLIMA relay were removed. Pulling the plug on the top of the compressor would definitely isolate it, but that would also remove the compressor speed signal, which means the KLIMA relay would interrupt the power to the compressor clutch. A common cause of trouble in the AC compressor controls is a failing clutch that draws too much current. I'll have to search for a bit to find the normal amperage. Re: [MBZ] Blown fuse
Here's the troubleshooting info for the clutch coil, either read ohms or amps depending on your test equipment. This was copied from the MBCA forums before they effectively killed it. I met Bob Goodwin a few times, retired Navy and a great guy. There is one thing that I don't believe is covered as well as it should be and that is the clutch coil. Yes, the clutch coil. Famous for burning out, shorting out or just frying a few windings. Not enough to blow the fuse but plenty to disrupt the speed comparator and shut off the compressor permanently or intermittently. Of all the troubleshooting steps, checking the compressor clutch coil is cheap and relatively easy. Measure current with a clamp on amp meter. Reading should be 3.75 A hot or 4.2 A cold. Resistance should be approx 3.5 ohms hot or 3.1 ohms cold. Everytime I chased an elusive A/C compressor problem in a Mercedes, it turned out to be a bad clutch. I don't spend near as much on A/C parts anymore. __ Robert Goodwin Virginia Beach, Virginia '87 300SDL '95 E300D - Max Charleston SC On Fri, Jul 17, 2015 at 11:45 AM, Max Dillon dillonm...@gmail.com wrote: Wilton, I know that pulling the KLIMA relay will disable the AC compressor, that is located right behind the battery and fairly easy to get to, but may be pretty tight in the socket. I looked there as well. They had a few coupe hoods, but the price was around $1000 not including shipping. Fenders were around $300. So that’s $1300 right there without shipping. Then the cost of getting them painted, which I’m thinking might be around $500. Now we’re up to $1800 minimum, certainly more. That’s for a car with 280k on it that I paid $3000 for three years ago. The numbers just don’t work. Oh - don’t forget the headlight, too. That’s maybe another $200. Thanks for the suggestion, however. It was worth a shot. On the subject of the AC compressor clutch coil, I would inspect the wiring to it very carefully, as it can come loose from the tie wrap that secures it to the compressor, lean out somewhat, allowing it to rub against the back of the compressor pulley, which grounds it out and eventually cuts through it. I say this as I found just that condition on my oldest son's former 300E. Dan Sent from my iPad On Jul 17, 2015, at 12:21 PM, Meade Dillon via Mercedes mercedes@okiebenz.com wrote: Here's the troubleshooting info for the clutch coil, either read ohms or amps depending on your test equipment. Re: [MBZ] Chevrolet Colorado Diesel Promises Best-in-Class Towing, Torque
The Kohler distributor I worked for in the mid 80s was a Lister/Petter distributor. Petter was the throw away engine line, cheap, aluminum block diesel engines good for maybe 5,000 - 10,000 hours. Listers were the expensive, last longer than your average lifetime engines. Everybody knows the old arrow boards they used to have on the highways around road construction projects, the orange trailers with the big black sign board with yellow lights in the shape of an arrow that would blink. Nearly every one of those was powered by a Petter single cylinder diesel engine that drove a Motorola 12VDC belt driven alternator. The alternator charged a Group 8D battery which in turn ran the lights. Petter had a deal where you could turn in a core (complete engine) and they would discount the purchase of a new engine heavily. We used to have these sign board companies come in at the end of the construction season with literally truckloads of Petter AC1 engines to trade in on new ones. The old engines went back to Petter and were crushed, we were told. We didn't sell a lot of Listers that I know of, as the equipment manufacturers didn't want to invest the cost of an engine into their products. We saw sales in agriculture and irrigation, though. Parts for Listers were nothing short of obscene, but considering that it wasn't unusual to get 20,000 hours or more out of an engine, you could justify the expense. Re: [MBZ] S500 Ouchies
It sounds like Dan has a good relationship with his son. That's great and Dan should be proud of himself and proud of his son for making that happen. According to the police, Dans son hit another car. Since Dans son is in the process of becoming a responsible adult, he should have a constant reminder for a while of why defensive driving is very necessary. By chance, having to drive the car that was damaged will probably be a very good reminder until Dan finds replacement parts which are certainly available somewhere, but might take a while. Looking at the damaged car sitting in his drive every day is probably going to be harder on Dan than on his son since Dan is an admitted perfectionist, but this could be an extremely good learning experience for his son. My suggestion would be for Dan to keep looking for the replacement parts on a regular basis, even involving his son in the search if he doesn't have too much homework, and let his son drive the damaged car in the meantime. My wife and I used this approach on our children, and they grew up to be responsible and successful adults. Depends. There are two things on taco pressure as far as I recall: The clutch coil and the speed pickup (Hall effect sensor, I believe.) The wires all go through the same connector, I believe, so it would be difficult at best to separate them at the compressor. The only thing I can think of would be to try and pop the wire for the clutch out of the connector, and then apply a separate voltage source to it to measure the current draw. ?? A firm grip and gentle working while pulling up should free it. I don't know if a failing push-button unit would still blow the fuse if the KLIMA relay were removed. Pulling the plug on the top of the compressor would definitely isolate it, but that would also remove the compressor speed signal, which means the KLIMA relay would interrupt the power to the compressor clutch. A common cause of trouble in the AC compressor controls is a failing clutch that draws too much current. I'll have to search for a bit to find the normal amperage. Isn't the pressure switch in series with the compressor? With the switch unplugged, the compressor will NOT turn on - but all the blowers will run. I don't know what other sub-systems will work or not - like will the aux fan turn on. Unless the KLIMA is involved, on the older systems the pressure switch is in series with the compressor clutch. Thus unplugging that switch should isolate the compressor but let the rest of the system run. Re: [MBZ] Trump card Was: Chevrolet Colorado Diesel Promises Best-in-Class Towing, Torque
Andrew... Being in the protected and isolated beltway of DC you likely don't realize that Soros and other like him are the real reason Trump has leaped to the leadership position in two weeks after filing to run for President. Trump stands up, speaks up, and won't shut up, because he is not intimidated by anyone. The rest of America west of the Potomac River are truly and well pissed at the District of Corruption, Soros, and the evil they represent. So, Yes, a little bio discourse on Soros ... and others.. is actually about Trump... who in plain words, without doing the PC Dance says what Americans have been saying for the past 30 yrs.. I'm mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take this any more just about sums it up for most Americans, about now. --R Is there video or audio of that exchange? It sounds delightful. Re: [MBZ] Power Brake Booster 123
If you order a part from a dealer and need it in a hurry, tell them to “VOR” it. It costs them nothing extra, and as long as you order it before the cutoff time for the day, no matter what depot it’s in in North america you’ll have it the next morning. They even VOR stuff from Germany, but that adds a day. College seems like a big racket these days to me. I know lots of folks paying off student loans all their life that don't really make that much money. Sent from my iPhone You are right. you pay to be brainwashed and become a good little liberal/socialist/marxist borg. then you you follow the collective, you stay an indentured servant for life. OR: You can send them to hillsdale college. They allow thinking and teach the constitution there. Very sub versiv e! Counter culture! Re: [MBZ] Blown fuse
This is for the Japanee compressor? I assume not for the GM in the 123s? __ Robert Goodwin Virginia Beach, Virginia '87 300SDL '95 E300D ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
