For the short while I owned an SDL, it was a real blast. If the car is in very good condition, then I would jump on it. Not a rodbender, and upgrades from the early w126. Lots of leg room, land yacht feel, but the OM603 puts out enough power to get it moving. No slower in my seat of the pants than a 380SE. What to look out for would be the Trap oxidizer and that all the standard underhood items are functional. Re: [MBZ] OT: C-47 glider towing
The most widely-used US glider in WWII was the Waco CG-4 with 15 seats. The larger CG-10 could carry almost 11K lb of cargo (like two howitzers). These were basically one-time-use throw-away aircraft, a far cry from today's sail planes. I am surprised that any American did not know about this effort but I guess much has changed since I went to school. Re: [MBZ] OT (?) Mice eating the wiring
You keep using the word humane but I don't think you know what it means. What you're really doing is live trapping a rabbit that will die later as a result of your actions. If its lucky it'll get hit by a car and killed cleanly. Much more likely it'll starve to death because it can't access food because the other rabbits in the area you've transported it to won't let it. Its also quite likely it'll be attacked by dogs or cats or other critters. A good trap kills clean, the animal feels that one bite and its all over, no suffering. So with your trap you doom the animal to suffer, I kill it cleanly. Tell me who is more humane? You claim to never kill but eat plants and animals that would not have died were it not for your appetite. I'm not saying its wrong to survive, the lion eats the antelope and never considers it. What I'm saying is that you need to recognize that other things die so that you might live, don't minimize that by saying you don't kill, your very survival ensures that others die. Even vegetarians eat plants that would otherwise have fed wildlife. -Curt From: Andrew Strasfogel via MercedesTo: Mercedes Discussion List Cc: Andrew Strasfogel Sent: Wednesday, September 2, 2015 3:43 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT (?) Behind the driver's side headlight, around the A/C pressure switch/drier there was a bunch of grass and mud. No mouse nest, but it looked like something bigger had slept there. My second though was packrat, but AFIK, no 4 legged pack rats around here. (only 2 legged) Pack rats build much bigger nests than this one was. In the flint hills of KS, that is a different story, but none around here that I know of. There are groundhogs though. My suspicion is that a ground hog put the mud and grass there in the spring and then baked itself in the warmth under the black hood parked next to south and west facing building sided that blocked the wind and reflected the afternoon sun. The critter had big teeth, as it bit through the LF TS wires, and chewed insulation off other wires and cut some other wires down in that corner. I doubt the AC will ever run, so I didn't fix those. I had to splice and insulate several other wires. I've never heard of groundhogs sleeping in a car before. I always get the oddball things. ___ Do you have squirrels? That sounds more likely to me. Not a bad idea. A couple years ago I caught a ver small mouse sitting on top of the trap eating the cheese without setting it off... -Curt From: Randy BennellTo: Curt Raymond ; Mercedes Discussion List Sent: Wednesday, September 2, 2015 5:35 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT (?)
