I mostly use wheel bearing grease.  It's available,
inexpensive, not prone to washing out, and stable at high
temperatures.   I have used it on everything from 220 VAC to
microphone wires.  Automotive battery terminals, trailer
lights, speakers, video cables.  So far, I have never found
evidence of a problems from it nor have I found anything
better at keeping the weather and corrosion out.

[MBZ] Screwed up the blinkers

A few years ago I made a mistake and installed LED bulbs in the  SL.  Thought I 
was going to save the old wiring by fewer electrons flowing and heating it up, 
stripping off ions and melting the insulation.

The lumens from these sad excuses for light were minimal.  The sunny day drive 
yesterday got me thinking maybe the other drivers were not seeing my 
indicators.  Time to retrofit working lamps for the tail.  Got it opened up and 
began swapping in new bulbs.  Testing proved I have some issues.  The right 
side amber was not activating.  Upon closer examination, the power wire had 
snapped off the mount.  I had to solder up the mount, but it did not light off. 
 The 4ways were able to get the driver side to work, but nothing front or back 
from the right hand.  Fuse?

You can get tubes of dielectric grease at NAPA for about $7.00.

With the more aggressive ice-melting compounds in use on roads now,
trucks (and others) need to be proactive in keeping corrosives away
from electrical connections.

I just bought a bunch of really nice old solid copper pots and pans and
such from a friend for cheap money, really cheap, but it was her price.
Looking at prices on line I got a really good deal, and we are both
happy so I am OK with it.  She had collected them over the years,
probably never put much into any piece.

Some of them need retinning.  Looks like a fairly simple process, heat
them up, some flux, and some tin either solid or pre-melted. Doesn't
seem a lot different from soldering copper pipe though I'm sure doing it
well would take a bit of practice, or maybe not. Looks pretty
reversible, tin melts at 450F it appears, I guess it could be taken off
to start over, or to remelt it or something.

Anyone ever done this?

The quality of their middle school education is light years ahead of our 
current expectation for an 8th grade survivor.   We turn out high school 
graduates that are forcing colleges to gin up an extra year of remedial classes 
to get these idiots to a level able to learn in an entry level class.  I am 
fairly sure I could take some sod homed farmboy from 1895, toss him into a 
remedial year at college and have him surpass the bulk of his fellow student in 
2016.

We are trying to educate you.  I think you have just caught a clue.

I am reading the recent Wright Brothers book, their father was some 
sort of preacher who was fairly high in the organization of whatever 
flavor he practiced, he traveled a lot in his duties but still did 
preaching and sermonizing and whatever.  One of his pet topics was 
"intransigent ignorance," which I might also call "refractory 
ignorance," and it gave him no end of fodder for his sermons as well 
as his teachings of his chirruns.  I see a lot of it around me, 
nothing has apparently changed in 120some years or more.  More 
preaching!

Dan needs to make a swing through the Lowcountry and pick up Max and 
me, it's only like 2hr detour off 95, or we could meet you at 
Savannah, we can swap off drivers and power on through in the big 
Benz, get that sucker rolling along about 95 (butbutbut officer I 
thought I-95 meant I go 95!)  through the night (except in Virginia, 
where they would throw our asses in jail for that, though the gov is 
my wife's cousin so maybe I could get a pass fo ar ass).  Hell we 
could even swing by and pick up Wilton, he's not far off the path. 
We can fill up a few jugs with cheap dizzel at the Flying J up by 
Pedro's place here in Freedomland before hitting the northern nanny 
$tate$, should get us up there and back.  Hell we could even get 
Andy to meet us over on 95 in DC and we could put him on the roof 
and take him up there, he could buy us some dizzel using his 
Obamacheck.


Dan does the AC BLOW ICE COLD?  I think we have a plan.

The geezertrain is one of the great failings of Amtrak, it goes from somewhere 
in Virginia to Florida. The geezers really want to get on the train in Boston 
or maybe around NYC, spend a pleasant day playing bridge or whatever, go to 
sleep and wake up in Florida. The fact that you can only do half or less of the 
journey by geezertrain makes it useless and thus it is not a money making 
enterprise.

used this stuff, and the results seem to be good with a lot of

Gotta draw the line somewhere between time/expense/convenience/logistics. I 
would love to drive up, but you're looking at four days just in transit time, 
plus the related expenses.

That compared with a couple hours on a plane and being able to get there and 
back in under a day, and driving just doesn't make sense.

After all, isn't the camaraderie worth something?

If we have a FloridaQ next year my cars will be there.

our round trip fare for the flights to the ChowdahQ were under $200. That's TPA 
to BOS (Logan).
