Used for the win. You could change them several times per year and still come out ahead. People switch tires for all manner of silly reasons. Most shops selling them stand behind them. They recycle the rest into concrete and basketball and playground surfaces. Re: [MBZ] For Sale: Really Nice 124 Spare wheel / tire
Anyone have need for a never-used early 124 spare? This is from Wilton's 300D, and it does not have even a hint of use, looks brand new. Has a Pirelli tire mounted, but I suspect it is about 29 years old and so the tire is NOT road-worthy. Even has what look like original MB wheel weights. Anyone prepping a 124 car for a concurs competition? This is the spare tire you need! Contact me for pictures, make me an offer. If I put this on my car, all the rest of the wheels would like like total crap. This thing is so nice and perfect it would be a shame to put it into general use. - Max Charleston SC Is Walt Anderson still showing his 124? Rusty used to sell a front suspension kit, do it all at once for several hundred bucks and then you're done with it for another 20 years. I'd think the handling would get very scary before it wore enough to come apart catastrophically. If you plan to keep it for the rest of your life, starmarked is probably the best, unless you can buy the OEM part made to the same specs as the ones they ship to MBZ.Northlake has two very different front suspension drawings on their web site, is this the right one? Re: [MBZ] Ball joint(s) 1985 300D
Michael, There is a risk that the ball joint will completely fail, at which point you rapidly transition from a driver into a passenger, and Bad Things happen when that wheel comes off. In your shoes, I would get that joint replaced ASAP. I had one get questionable, I had squeaking going on that I could not diagnose, and then one day the steering got a bit funny and "Ah HAH!" I knew that was a ball joint, so I had the car towed to my Indie for repair. Have the other joint evaluated, if the boot is compromised it must be replaced. If the boot is intact, a good MB mechanic can check the joint for play, and then advise you accordingly. If no play, really no need to replace it unless you want to be proactive. - Max Charleston SC On Tue, May 24, 2016 at 7:28 AM, Michael Esh via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > My left/ drivers side lower ball joint is screeching and complaining every > time I go over a bump. > Is this normally replaced in pairs or can I just replace the one side? > Is it ok to continue driving the vehicle until I have the part replaced? > I seen prices from $17.00 to $44.00.
