If your looking for other suppliers, most manufactures have "2025"
in the part number. For example, Everyready is an ECR2025,
Duracell is DL2025. The exception is Seiko and Citizen - SB-T14
and 280-205, respectively.

Specs are 20.0 mm x 2.5 mm; [or 0.787 inch x 0.098 inch]; 3 VDC

Re: [MBZ] On topic: It's time for a new air compressor

2016-08-13 Thread Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes
Watch out for used tanks. If rusted they can kill you when they let go.

Yes the proper test is fill with water and use a grease gun or similar
filled with water and a gauge, then do a leak down. Or just open the end
and look inside with a scope.

There are little automatic water puker things you can put on the tank drain
to be sure it stays dry. Cheap insurance.

Be sure the air filters for the compressor intake are in place and not
damaged if buying used.

Also pay attention to noise. The two stage low speed compressors are far
quieter than the tiny fast home depot or sears units. More expensive, but
they last forever, whereas the sears variety are only for light use or they
stop working fairly quickly. Even the upright Ingersoll rand 3hp my friend
bought new is tons louder than the 5hp all American I found on Craigslist
seven years ago, for similar money. It has to do with the size of the
compressor itself. Bigger is better, and quieter. Best deal depends upon
how much air you need, and how often.

I pretty much called it a biking career at that juncture. I figured there
was just too much stuff beyond my control that could put me in a wheelchair
or worse. You can prepare, but it is a lot like flying, only more
dangerous. You have to use lots of discipline, self control etc. And even
then a deer and a random fence post or culvert can make for a bad or short
life.

Only way you will see me on a bike again is at the track.

[MBZ] 1982 300SD AC Question

2016-08-13 Thread Scott Ritchey via Mercedes
I noticed the AC on my 300SD wasn't cooling today. This car had not been
run for months. The line from the compressor to the radiator was quite hot
but the top of the AC radiator was barely warm. The bottom of the radiator
was cold and the receiver-dryer (and everything downstream) was cold.

For those with more hands-on experience: Is this likely a stuck expansion
valve? A plugged AC radiator?

Re: [MBZ] On topic: It's time for a new air compressor

2016-08-13 Thread Scott Ritchey via Mercedes
I have one of those Harbor Freight 2 HP compressors with the 8-10 gal
horizontal tank. I paid about $100 plus the bottle of oil. Water collects
in the tank but it's easy to drain (the pros do it at the end of every day).
The only problem to date is the spring in the unloader/check valve rusted
through. I wound a DIY spring from some wire (which worked OK) but later
replaced it with a spring from a "box of springs". For occasional use it
serves my needs well.

HF had a (maybe still does) a kit that burps the drain each time the motor
shuts down but it requires clearance between the tank and the floor.

Another article on the website,

http://www.komando.com/tips/366092/5-summer-safety-tips-to-stay-safe-from-burglars

was about how to secure your house. It was sponsored by SimpliSafe, a
company which makes wireless home security systems.

Unfortunately, as

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/02/17/simplisafe_wireless_home_alarm_system_cracked/

says, the SimpliSafe systems are a little too simple.

I looked for a way to comment, but could not find one. Perhaps one has to
pay to join before one can leave a comment.

Re: [MBZ] One of Our Beloved Cars Saves Another

2016-08-13 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
I was reading an article in the BMWMOA News by a guy who hit a deer on
his BMW. He said "I stood up and saw the BMW had left parts all along
the road, the dead deer, and then it occurred to me: I was standing!"
At the ER, the Doctor heard the details and shook his head. "He could
not believe I only had a broken arm. No bones showing, no road rash.
He asked me what I was wearing and I told him full body suit, with
armor, full helmet, riding boots and gloves."

In that case, it probably made little difference about the brand or type
of motorcycle, but the "All the gear, all the time" made a HUGE
difference. With the big corn fed whittails around here, there are not
many survivors of motorcycle/deer accidents.

Wilton - at least you weren't shopping for something in the tens or
hundreds of $$$. I priced some battery I needed online once, maybe a new
iPhone 4s battery, and then visited the local batteries+ to see if their
price would tempt "instant gratification". I think they were at least
double the most expensive battery I found on Amazon, I was hoping they'd
be

similar plus save me the shipping costs, maybe a little above that. I've
never been back.

I have to drain my little one fairly often, it gets a lot of water in
there esp in the summer

Draining the air tank also gets rid of water, a real problem down here in
the low country. Friend bought a huge compressor (240v) from a shop that
had it for a few years and when it seemed to be running all the time they
thought it was just old and tired. When he went to move it out to his
truck, it weighed a ton! He drained out the water, apparently the shop
never did that, and it has been running fine in my friend's shop ever since.

The Harbor Freight instructions say that it will consume oil and that you

Wilton - at least you weren't shopping for something in the tens or
hundreds of $$$. I priced some battery I needed online once, maybe a new
iPhone 4s battery, and then visited the local batteries+ to see if their
price would tempt "instant gratification". I think they were at least
double the most expensive battery I found on Amazon, I was hoping they'd be
similar plus save me the shipping costs, maybe a little above that. I've
never been back.

[MBZ] 1992 W-140 For Sale 143,000 miles

2016-08-13 Thread W140 via Mercedes
If you're looking for a nice W140 this is it
This is the Princess "DI" car (well not the one she wrecked)
I just bought a new car and don't have room for 2 cars.

I have a Pearl Black with Gray bottom trim 1992 W-140 300SD
badged as a S350 with 143,000 miles but only 68,000 on a Factory New "0" time
1999 engine installed by Mercedes.
The car is located in Everett, Washington 25 miles North of Seattle.
Just about EVERYTHING is new and ALL factory replaced by a Mercedes dealer.
I am a 2nd owner and have had the car since 1998.
At 75,000 miles, Mercedes installed a factory NEW engine, new evaporator, new
turbo, new front springs, new shocks, new control arm bushings, new exhaust,
new injection pump,
new engine boost sensor/manifold pressure sensor, new crankshaft position
sensor, new wiring harness, new water pump, new blower motor, new engine
mounts (all 3), new Fan and Fan Blade Drive (main coolant fan), new throttle
linkages,
new belt tensioner spring, new rubber lines, Vacuum fittings and Misc.
lines, seals, gaskets, etc you name it the factory replaced it. If it
squeaked, clicked or hummed. I got it replaced, ALL RECORDS since the day it
rolled off the boat here in Seattle.
On the road I am getting 30 MPG ( I have got 31 but I was just me and a
toothbrush),
around town getting 22 MPG. It has 800 mile legs with a 28 gal tank.
Bose AM/FM with 6 CD capacity.
Just as a point of interest, with me and a full tank of fuel the car weighs
5000 lbs
with 2500lbs on the front axle and 2500lbs on the back axle. Pretty good
balance, eh?

Thermo-pane windows (double thick just like your house) makes for a very
comfortable
setting in both cold and warm times also very quiet.

At 142,000 miles; New Brakes, New Generator, New Radiator, New Coolant,
New A/C compressor, New r134a refrigerant, New Serpentine Belt
New wiring Harness, New Windshield wipers.
The above has a 2 year warentee in effect.
Again I have EVERY receipt since it rolled off the boat. Also Have ALL Original
books,
Complete Maintenance CD, Original W-140 VCR sales Tape, 2 New Extra Filters
(Oil and Air). And an extra hub (if you need for snow tires. Extra set of floor
mats (black).
All the above are under a 2 year warentee.
Licensed until April 2017

This car runs like a Swiss Watch.
If you want a car you can just jump in and drive cross country? Well this is it.

OKNow the Bad News. Bumper paint has a few chips, 2 small Car door dings in
left rear door,
Just recently the antenna stopped working, this was after they replaced the
Radiator (coincidence?)
I can still get local stations.
Right front fender has a small scrape, I cut it a little close when parking.
The drivers seat has a small cut on the back of the seat.
Have extra filters (both oil and Air), a complete Maintenance CD, Original MB
Promo VCR tape and literature, 5 sets FOB keys.Pictures on request
Any questions write me
I can deliver anywhere for costs and trip back.
