Not I, the shop SWMBA took the car to.  They were well versed in BioD damage 
and had the specialized parts to reduce the screw over that fuel causes. First 
time the GP broke off, second time I forget what happened.

Engine eats GP #6  Cokes it in

I was getting really good mileage on extended drives.  I do not recall exact 
mpg, but was getting 680 miles on a tank at 80mph with minimal stops.  City 
driving was around 22-27 depending on traffic.  Mostly done short drives to 
work.

This is also the model with monovalve issues.  Wilton knows how to put them to 
work again.

Is it the engine where Marshall said you needed to get a swivel socket from the
Snap-On man to remove the back plug, or was that the turbo version?

I’ve seen a couple of these up for sale recently, and was wondering if anyone 
here was familiar enough with this model to know from direct experience what 
kind of mileage is realistic with this car.

I’m talking about the later W124 models, like 1995, with the six cylinder OM616 
in them.  And is this the engine that’s a b*tch to get glow plugs out of?

Do what I used to do in Wisconsin.  I installed one of those 24 hour lighting 
timers in the front of my garage that turned on my block heater around 4:00 am. 
 Walk out, unplug and coil up, close the hood, drive away with heated cabin.

Although I can relate to the complexity of having to plug in a block heater 
while corralling a couple of youngsters in car seats, etc.

She really wants a blue W123 wagon, which I'm all for except for winter
use.  The salt and snow is one thing, but we also have those mornings that
hover around 0F, when starting will be a challenge.  Dealing with a block
heater or other starting aids while getting two kids out the door for
school isn't going to fly.

Second on the list is an old G wagon, which I'm also ok with.  A 280GE
isn't the best in terms of fuel economy, but would be an excellent family
vehicle.
