I would be glad to post a more viable TD were one to show itself. PNW has
been well plucked of great examples. The BioD revolution sent many good cars
to early graves. There are a few really superb cars to be had, but at a
premium and not all that often.

I already gave ya the best offer you are gonna get.

All ya gotta do is ride da dog over to me. I'll give ya a ride to the Q

But since you didn't bite right away, now you'll have to buy fuel for
the first $70. I already bought a ticket to ride da dog over toward
Dan. If you take up the deal now, you cost me $70, thus the reason why
you have to buy fuel/food to cover my loss.

Dunno, you may be able to buy a new or used motherboard, depending on
how popular the machine was. I got a board level repair for $200, but
that makes no sense if the laptop was a $300 wally land special pentium
when it was new.

Find a computer shop that will replace the machine if they can't return
it to you in working condition. Pay em for doing the bios update. It
can't cost that much.

Bricking a machine due to a failed BIOS update won’t affect the data stored on
it, you can just take the hard drive out and put it on anything else and get
the data. It hoses the BIOS EEPROM and you can’t boot the machine again. In a
desktop where you could pull the BIOS chip out and replace it you could
recover, but in a laptop where the BIOS chip is soldered to the motherboard
you’re pretty much screwed.

2016-12-22 Thread rogerhga--- via Mercedes
Randy,
Go to support for whatever computer you have and check for any needed updates,
especially the BIOS. There are chip instructions/features that Win10 wants that
may not have been turned on in the original BIOS in your computer. It's good to
keep your BIOS updated regardless. When I loaded Win10 on my two old Dell
Vostros (200 and 220), I had to update the BIOS on the 200 in order for Win10
to load because the original BIOS was missing a feature. After updating the
BIOS, Win10 loaded and has run fine since back in the Summer. Just some extra
info to consider.

It is an i7 860 which he says is a 1st generation chip and says he has

He believes there is a fault in the chip and thus no way to fix it.

He recommended that I not change from 7.

I sent this a few days ago, but it never went out.

The tailgate on my 85 Wagon is filling with water when it rains. A new
behavior. Is it usually the window seal, the wiper nozzle seal, the
 wiper
stalk seal, or the main door gasket? Some water in the footwell of the
 3rd

I guess the first step is reinstall the glass. The door gasket looks
 good,
but perhaps I could tighten the latch position a bit.

 Thanks.

Even I knew that - from bitter experience.

We drove the 1973 280 all the way from D.C. to Cincinnati. As we got off
the interstate, the oil pressure dropped precipitously. I reached into the
glove box and frantically called one of the Friends of MBCA listed in the
booklet that the Club handed out in those days (1983). I had a brief
conversation with a Club member and he informed me that this was entirely
normal - under load the needle needs to be pinned but at idle or cruising
it is permitted to slack off.

A good time was had by all after this misadventure and needless diversion.

GOP climate leader cuts emissions, except from cars

Benjamin Storrow , E News
reporter
Published: Wednesday, December 21, 2016

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker is a rarity among Republicans. He believes
in climate change, and he's doing something about it.

Baker released a proposal

last week to curb greenhouse gas emissions by 7.2 percent of 1990 levels
in four years. The plan calls on power plants to curtail emissions, on the
state government to upgrade its vehicle fleet and on pipeline operators to
patch leaky distribution lines.

The question for Massachusetts: Does Baker's plan go far enough?

[image: E Power Plan Hub Logo]

The answer is legally important. Massachusetts' high court ruled this
summer that the Bay State is bound by a 2008 law requiring it to slash
carbon emissions 25 percent of 1990 levels by 2020 and 80 percent by 2050 (
Climatewire , May
19).

Greens are quick to praise the governor. In the current political
environment, they view any Republican working to combat climate change as a
positive development. But the plan will almost certainly fail to meet the
state's ambitious carbon-cutting goals, they say, noting that it does
little to meaningfully tackle the transportation sector, now the largest
emitter of greenhouse gases.

"I am encouraged that they are taking these steps," said Peter Shattuck,
director of the clean energy initiative at the Acadia Center, an
environmental group. "For the long term, there clearly needs to be a lot
more done to achieve the 2050 reduction and the interim reduction to get
there."

Power generators, for their part, see the plan as piling on. They would be
required to come up with the majority of emission cuts (about 4 percent)
under Baker's proposal.

Utilities have cut their carbon emissions 60 percent in the last 16 years,
said Dan Dolan, president of the New England Power Generators Association.
Transportation, meanwhile, accounted for more than 40 percent of all
statewide greenhouse gas emissions, roughly twice as much as the power
sector.

"We've picked the low-hanging fruit, and the focus needs to be shifted to
the places where the low-hanging fruit hasn't been picked," Dolan said.
Deeper cuts at power plants

State officials say they believe the plan gets Massachusetts to its legal
targets. In 2013, the state had already cut emissions by 19.7 percent of
1990 levels, according figures by the Massachusetts Department of
Environmental Protection.

Martin Suuberg, commissioner of the state Department of Environmental
Protection, said the state tends to err conservatively when proposing
emissions cuts. But he said regulators are open to ideas.

The state's plan, which now goes out for public comment, calls on imposing
an annual emissions cap of 9.1 million tons on power plants starting in
2018. That would fall to 8.6 million tons by 2020 and 1.8 million tons in
2050.

It would also impose emission limits for state-owned vehicles, and it calls
on gas companies to patch leaky distribution lines and institute a clean
energy standard, allowing generators to receive credits for procuring
low-emitting sources of electricity, like hydro. The proposal would
effectively increase the state's renewable portfolio standard, which now
requires that generators receive 11 percent of their power from sources
like wind and solar.

"I think we all recognize that we need to keep making progress,
particularly as we're moving to transportation and other sectors," Suuberg
said in an interview.

Environmentalists are hopeful that they can convince Baker to go further
still. The state's proposed cap on power plant emissions needs to be about
1 million tons lower to meet its legal responsibilities, said David Ismay,
an attorney with the Conservation Law Foundation.

And while addressing state-owned vehicles is a start, "these regulations do
virtually no meaningful work in reducing those transportation

Re: [MBZ] Installing directional snow tires "backwards"

2016-12-22 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Last winter the rear tires on Angie's Golf were worn on the inside edge and I
didn't notice until one day driving home in a light snow the rear of the car
had a disturbing tendency to try to slide off the road... I put snow tires on
the next day.

Or just mount them "wrong" side out.

Hmm...  Maybe.  Is the performance improved because the tip
touches the ground first?  Or because of the direction of the
slope relative to the direction of force?  Some of each?

I don't know.

But the back tires don't contribute much during heavy braking,
though on a slippery surface, there won't be any heavy braking!

Beats the heck out of buying a decent car for $3k and having to throw $5k into

That is totally true Rick. The options for us seem to be a used crapbox
modern wagon (heck no), a used W124 or 210 wagon from MB (and we don't care
for these body styles as much as our favorite) or go for the gold with our
favorite of all time...
Drum roll please
The W123 Wagon.
Hence, our search for a solid, complete, and ready to roll daily driver.
We know that extreme bargains are rare as hens teeth, and that is not our
focus here. We are working on getting a wagon worth the money and are
currently working on a lead or two. I really don't mind paying somebody
what their car is worth and feel that a quality W123 wagon is well within
our reach and abilities to acquire.

Re: [MBZ] w123 tailgate aquarium

2016-12-22 Thread MG via Mercedes
Never seen water get into a tailgate from the lens seals. At
least not on my TD. Could be that weird water up there in
Washington.

I've changed my thoughts. The foremost probable is the wiper
shaft seal. Should be easy to check. Just take the trim piece
out, run a hose over the tailgate glass and have someone watch
the shaft area inside to see if it leaks. Not too difficult a
change though you do have to take out the whole carpet panel to
get the wiper motor out. Get all the plastic parts at the shaft
while you are at it. The one piece that has the four prongs on it
and holds the whole seal in has a tendency to break the prongs
off rather easily if it is the original.

I can see it being the window seal or the wiper nozzle seal possibly the

could cause it but you would notice the carpet on the door is wet so if
that's it it is easy to diagnose but in that case I would think you would
have more water in the third seat footwell then the tailgate itself. I
think the top of the carpet there is pretty tight against the tailgate
itself or at least it is on mine that there shouldn't be significant water
getting under it.

I sent this a few days ago, but it never went out.

The tailgate on my 85 Wagon is filling with water when it rains. A new
behavior. Is it usually the window seal, the wiper nozzle seal, the wiper
stalk seal, or the main door gasket? Some water in the footwell of the 3rd
seat also.

I guess the first step is reinstall the glass. The door gasket looks good,
but perhaps I could tighten the latch position a bit.

Thanks.

I visited there several times as well as Cottage Grove where they filmed the

Sure! You could _save_ the program to audio tape - but how often
