Shoot the door hardware off with high powered ammunition that you keep on hand.
The door will collapse and you can drag it out of the way in pieces.

Re: [MBZ] How to get hood open

2017-09-12 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes

If the hood latch cannot be released by pulling on the cable, perhaps you can
put a borescope type camera on a rod and shove it up from underneath and trip
the latch? (my plan for my 210 that had a cable come loose at the latch)

But first I'd try wiggling the hood every which way while pulling on the
release cable from inside the car in the hope it's still attached to the latch.
Mitch.

If that’s the cade and you’re not having any luck dinking around with the
cable, I would drop the bumper. Takes all of about 5 minutes to do. It will
give you a major amount of room to work in and maybe even direct access to the
latch.

Very tongue in cheek suggestion:

Take the jeep to drive... give the damaged car to child. In short time,
after never checking the oil or water and driving into things.. which is by
now, a demonstrated talent, he will complete the process of
totaling the car, or the rod that lets go after running without oil will
blow through the hood and force it open.. The municipality he abandons the
car in will impound it and sell it off for scrap... while he walks where
ever he needs to go.

Sarcasm off.. ;))

After decades of fixing things other people broke.. I feel your pain

Assuming that the cable didn't get knocked off the latch, how about shaking the
hood loose while holding the hood release lever back? (yes, takes two people,

Re: [MBZ] Crack Pipe Seller

2017-09-12 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Not that I know of, but they are very specific in the application asking if the
vehicle has ever been offered for sale anywhere else before you’ve offered it
to them, and they want details as to where, when and for how much. Since
they’re that concerned about it, I suspect they’ll check to be sure.

Craigslist is not indexed by search engines or the Wayback Machine. They have
agreements with all the big search engines to not index their sites. That’s
why there are third party search engines for searching CL, as you’ve got to go
out and crawl it yourself.

There is a paid search engine available to LEO folks that allows them to search
old CL ads.

BAT often puts cars of interest at the bottom of their daily postings that are
links to CL ads. They are not BAT auctions, nor is BAT endorsing them. It’s
more of a service to BAT readers that I think they do to fill some lines.
There is usually something unique or unusual about the CL ads, too. They are
submissions from BAT readers, I might add - BAT doesn’t go looking for them.

Re: [MBZ] OT cheap cordless drill

2017-09-12 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
I have the little brother - the 12v Bosch drill - and love it so much that
I got a second one so I don't have to run between the hangar and the
garage, it was always in the other building from where I was working. I
think the second one was on "sale" at Lowes for $99 at the time. It has two
speeds - fast for drilling, slow for driving big, long screws.
There are other brands that look identical, but the batteries don't
interchange.

We have a Dewalt at work and its really nice. When the battery in my Craftsman
19v finally dies I'll probably go with one of those. That said the second
battery started dying 2 or 3 years ago probably from lack of use but the "good"
one is still fine. I've had the thing nearly 10 years, nothing to complain
about other than the ni-cad batteries are heavy.

[MBZ] MPGs after Vacuum Fix 91 300D

2017-09-12 Thread Larry Turner via Mercedes
Had the fuel shut off valve replaced recently and over the past couple
of months following the shut off valve failing (it was a slow process)
we had seen our fuel mileage go down with every fill up.  Filled up
today and the mpg is back to 32 and change - where it used to be all the
time/  The mileage had gone into the mid/upper 20s since the vac leak
started.   This is the only thing I can think of that has changed which
might change the mileage.

It shows how important it is to keep after the leaks when they are small.

While the build itself might be decent, all the little niggling details that
they have either ignored or failed to address reeks of shoddy work, IMHO. I
would liken it to the CL seller who says the AC “just needs a can of
refrigerant” to be 100%.

Their constant reference to the cost of parts (“expensive”) is preaching to the
choir if someone knows what they were trying to achieve and smacks of a seller
who is grossly upside down on a car and trying to get out from under it with
the least possible loss.

Come on, who would go to the trouble of retrofitting a late model shifter and
brake pedal assembly and not take five minutes to troubleshoot bad glow plugs,
or lube a sunroof? Lazy and sloppy.

The car will not be on BAT now that they’ve listed it on CL. BAT doesn’t like
to be “Plan B”, and rarely makes an exception to this from what I’ve seen.

Re: [MBZ] 100 miles north of Tampa

2017-09-12 Thread MG via Mercedes
Well I can get about 15 amps out of a direct connection right at
the controller but that won't do much for the house since it's
too far away.

It's a safety and interface thing. The controller has to take the
pulse of the net so to speak in order to synchronize the 60 cycle
waves or else everything can get really interesting. The safety
part is of course in order to avoid any backfeed into the net to
keep from potentially killing anyone.

For it to work as a true backup I need to add some batteries and
another controller that will cut the line to the net and leave
just the inverters from the batteries tied in. I have been
looking at that since the newer second gen Tesla battery backup
system that they are now selling may finally be out. I'm having
trouble getting info on that from Tesla. It is supposed to be
much improved over the first gen which was available when I
originally did the system while at the same time is a bit less
expensive. I may be able to get a decent system there for around
$5-7000.

Calling it an "odd forecast track," the National Hurricane Center said that Jose should make a small clockwise loop over the open waters of the Atlantic for the next three days. This is due, the center said, to an area of high pressure that will move around the hurricane over the next several days.

Long-range models suggest that the strengthening high-pressure area will then
force the hurricane to move west-northwest toward the East Coast.

I tried while the storm was still over on the coast on Monday
morning and didn't get hold of anyone live. Yesterday afternoon
and this morning I just get a busy signal. I will keep trying
during the day and see if I get through. In the meantime I try to
keep the dog and wife away from the area (yeah just about the
same amount of common sense in both) just in case the power comes
back and doesn't blow the knife at the transformer.

Speaking of trees, of which I have "way" too many, one fell on the roof of my
house so I may be the only one on the list which has reportable hurricane damage. As soon
as the drizzle lets up, I'll take some pictures and send them to the group.
If you have to have a tree fall on your house, this is the way to do it. It landed
on its branches on the garage section of the house roof and there doesn't appear to
be any damage to the roof unless some rafters might have been broken. It's now
resting on the branches which are resting on the garage roof. The trunk is about
8-10" in diameter.
More later.
