[MBZ] Removing 240D rear Seat Back

2018-03-19 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes
Listers:
Can someone tell me how to remove the back of the back seat from an '83 240D? I
removed the seat bottom with no trouble, and took out the small screw out at
the lower corners of the back, but it doesn't want to slide up out of the slots
that hold it, if I remember correctly.
The left side seems loose in the slot, and will come up part way, but the right
one seems to be stuck.
This car was picked up in Germany and has several things that those sold in the
U.S. don't have, but it seems like the seats would be the same.
I'm trying to do a Martha on it.

Morons. Using E 10 disperses any water, and works fine without extra
additives. E10 can be E 0 up to E 10.

Thinning the herd - she must not have looked before walking into the
street, or expected any car present to see her and stop - which is very
risky under any circumstance. How many pedestrians are hit and killed every
day?

Well: "In 2015, 5,376 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in the
United States.1 This averages to *one crash-related pedestrian death every
1.6 hours*.1"

When we were remodeling our house in Los Alamos, we put the carpeting on

hauled them out of the house and took them away. It worked very well and

Today was the appointment with the Whirlpool approved technician for the
warranty repair, but they never showed. Guy from the shop calls me up and
I tell him about the error code and the problem with the serial number. He
says their database is bad and quite often won't recognize the serial
number. He asks me to send him a picture of the rating label with the
model and serial number, and a picture of the purchase receipt, and he'll
order the part (control board) under warranty and then come out and install
it and that should take care of the issue with one visit. Sweet.

The toaster wires will work only with the loop-style plugs. The wires are
not copper, they are most likely an alloy of nickle and chrome, like the
wires that glow in a plug-in-the-wall space heater.

No. The toaster wires drop the battery voltage to what the four
loop-style glow plugs in SERIES can handle.

With the conversion to PARALLEL plugs, the best way to wire is to have a
wire from each plug to the relay (which is what was done on the later
W123s). With the way yours is wired, the jumper from #3 to #4 carries the
current of three plugs.

Re: [MBZ] Painting 124 plastic bumper

2018-03-19 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
There are definitely primers or surface preparation chemicals to get paint to
stick to plastic, I’m not aware of anything that makes it more flexible.

If you’re painting a primered or previously painted surface, it’s not required
unless you sand down to the plastic.

I seem to recall there is an additive for painting plastic to make the
paint "flexible" so it bonds well over the life of the bumper and it's
flex.
Might want to speak to your paint supplier about that.

the price is for a new shell, minus the impact strip?

I've been watching the local pick-n-pull places and nothing's come up.
Just realized I should call a couple of the indie MB garages that keep
parts cars and see if they've got one. Guy on Benzworld is parting a sedan
in MN, shipping alone will be about $50-60, so I'll probably offer him $100
to ship the bumper.

Re: [MBZ] Painting 124 plastic bumper

2018-03-19 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
The impact strip is a separate part. I’m not sure how it’s attached, as I’ve
never had one off, but I know it’s sold as a separate part as I’ve looked at
replacing one.

Re: [MBZ] Painting 124 plastic bumper

2018-03-19 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Thanks guys, next question. The prospective "new" bumper is the middle
version, with painted body and chrome, but near-black impact strip, from a
1990 sedan. My cabriolet is a '95 so the bumper is all one color. Impact
strip on my car is fine, can I move that over to the "new" bumper or is
that part integral to the shell?

I’ve done bumpers with a couple of custom mixed rattle cans from the paint guys
in WI. Just sanded and prepped the surfaces, no big deal. Turned out nice and
lasted quite a while.

Why repaint? Silver looks good with white :-)

Mine are repainted. The impact strips are flaking, but everything else is
hanging ok.

As for difficulty, it is all in the prep. I can see it being a pain to
sand, but the visible panels not too bad. Cheap top feed gun and you're a
hero waiting to happen.
