So, how does this work if I live there and go out of state and buy a set of snow tires with studs, on my own rims, throw them in the trunk, then put them on when there is ice? For the next 20 years? Is there going to be "Stud police" to check everyones tires? Sometimes the practical application of a law overwhelms me any thoughts? Cars are like women. Young ones are pretty hard to gauge since the sparkle is still on them. But, you can tell when the bloom is off the rose and the wear shows up. Hard living takes its toll. Sagging seats tell more than the really sweet cosmetic detailing can hide. Crack smoking 25 year old will look twice her age. Same sort of hard living shows up on the vegans and keto people. A body is not meant to live through harsh treatment with no damage showing if your eyes are open. POS jeep I have to drive may have seen regular dealer servicing, but somebody did not give it the full care its booklet calls for. Maybe the dealer or owner did not want to service bushings. My 35 year old SD ran smoother than this 18 year old jeep. With the suspension rebuilt, that SD was rock solid. Even the 220D complete front end replacement was less squirrelly. clay 1974 450sl - Frosch - Two tone green 1082 SD - Allen 1986 SDL - Polei retired models- 2002 s430 - Victor, a Stately & well tailored crap 1976 300D - Blei Vanst - it looks silvery 1972 220D - Gump - She was green, simple and ran 1995 E300D - Gave her life to save me against a Dame in a SUV POS 1987 SDL - Beware Nigerian Scammers > On Feb 7, 2019, at 7:31 AM, Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes > wrote: > > I'm skeptical of that assertion. I suspect Peter meant to say "air" filter housing since that is a common place for the crankcase vent to terminate. But if you checked the whole engine exterior for oil leaks you probably already looked in the right place. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I'm skeptical of that assertion. Mileage and interior wear are not necessarily correlated. Re: [MBZ] Driving with excessive oil in the engine for 1800 miles!!!!! Possible Issues??
Thanks for the quick replies! My brother followed me home and noted no excessive smoke. I inspected the entire engine and there was no signs of oil leaking anywhere including the oil filter housing under the car. All thoughts appreciated. Possible Issues?? High oil level can result in foaming since the crank will be splashing the oil badly, and that usually results in excess oil consumption through the crankcase breather. Bad enough the oil pressure will drop to next to nothing. Usually accompanied by large amounts of blue smoke since the oil going down the intake doesn't burn very well in a gasser. If the crank wasn't thrashing the oil in the pan, there would be likely no effect at all. I'd check the oil filter housing for signs of oil being tossed up out of the crankcase ventilation system (or wherever the crankcase ventilation system vents back into the intake, might be a vacuum fitting somewhere), but if it didn't blow blue smoke when you drove it home I suspect you got away with it. Damage from oil going down the intake would be excessive deposits on the valves, piston crowns, and in the cats and oxygen sensor, so if it runs well and gets normal milage I'd leave it alone. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I know nothing about current rice burner engines, but I'd guess you are good to go. If excess oil had caused a problem, I would guess it would be evident in the form of blown out seals or some similar escape route for the oil. Robert Koziak via Mercedes wrote on 2/7/19 5:38 AM: Hi All, Sorry this issue is not related to my two Mercedes but there is no better place to ask for advice I recently purchased a 2014 Honda CRV with 14K through an estate sale. I know the family well so it's history is confirmed a one owner, no accident, low mileage vehicle. It had been sitting in a driveway for 6 months and needed a good detailing but looks almost brand new. When I went to pick up the vehicle I noticed the oil level showed a very high on the dipstick but all other levels were good. It was the coldest day of the year in the Northeast ( Queens, New York - 5 degrees) so I just decided to drive it 20 miles to my house before looking into it further. The next day I did an oil change and discovered there was 7 1/2 quarts of oil in the drain pan The owners manual calls for 4,2 quarts. I checked the records on the vehicle and saw the oil was last changed a year ago and had been driven 1800 miles since then. It looks like the repair shop apparently overfilled the oil during that change. There is no evidence of oil in the engine compartment and the car ran fine on the trip to my house. What damage could this have caused? Any precautions should I be taking at this time? Are their future issues I should be looking for or did I dodge a bullet because it is apparently running normal at this time? Thanks in advance for your help!
