A funny story: Today I drove the 220SEb to work and then on to my headliner guy's shop so he could survey it in anticipation of doing the headliner and related items early next month. It's a roughly 20 mile drive one way to work, half on surface streets and the other half on a reversible toll road with limited access/highway speeds (65 mph.) It's a combination of the two over to the headliner shop of about 10 miles, making the return back to the house much the same of about 30 miles for a total of about 60 miles round trip. We've all been in my shoes - a relatively new (to you) unproven car, taking it out on the road, listening to every noise, vibration, hum, whatever, riding on the edge just waiting for something (bad) to happen. You hear something and start to freak out Drive to work - uneventful, maybe even fun. The toll road is a reversible with three lanes, no access for roughly 11 miles. Traction batteries are a crapshoot but they last a long time. You can buy rebuilt traction batteries for around $1700 from reliable companies. My son, a manufactueres rep, bought a Ford Fusion Hybrid new, drove it 250,000 miles, and never had any problems with the traction battery. It had a Toyota hybrid drive train. The first thing to find is a shop that knows how to work on a hybrid. A mechanic who doesn't can mess one up big time. If you have the time, you can rebuild a traction battery yourself providing you are knowledgeable about high voltage electricity. You can learn how on prius_technical_st...@yahoogroups.com If you buy the car be sure that the airbags have been replaced, or that they were not on the recall list. [MBZ] OT Lexus question
I found a 2009 Lexus GS 450H (Hybrid). It is in GREAT shape. But, it has 150,000 miles. Anyone have a experience with these? The reviews I have read are great. But, at 150,000 I’m thinking the hybrid batteries are going to be the problem. The cost is around $2500-3000 to replace. Donald H. Its easy enough to tell if somebody has studded tires when somebody drives by. "Is it hailing?" But yeah, are they going to station police on every street listening for studded tires? Will there be "stud runners" (clever double entendre there no?) bringing tires into the state? I've never found studded snow tires to be a big advantage over regular snows although I'll admit I've not got a lot of time on them. Snow tires are much better than all-seasons, good all-season tires are better than regular onion skins... In the past I've run cheap onion skins in summer and cheap snows all winter.
