Curley, Peter.
The Neutral Safety Switch has a setting hole for a drill blank to line-up
the switch and selector position.
When you look at it, it will be obvious how it goes. Cannot remember
off-hand if it is Park or N position for alignment.
Replacing the bushings moves the lever in relation to the switch.
YMMV.

I had issue with a Kali car almost 30 years ago. Somehow that state wanted
money for me to purchase the car from an Oregon seller who had not titled the
car properly. That was a giant PITA because on the way home with the car, I
caught the attention of the local WA Mounties who gave me a ticket for driving
a car with out of state plates. I had purchased the thing not an hour before,
and now the clock was ticking to avoid a bigger fine should I be found driving

getting it cleared up.

Never going to purchase a kolifornia car again.

Re: [MBZ] 129 SL Code reader

We read the codes on the 124 gassers by the flashes and/voltmeter.  I
don't remember how many pins the connector had, but #1 daughter figured
them out, so I would read the flashes or voltage per pin and she would
read the "code" meaning to me.  We made a good team.

Thanks for posting this info.  If I ever get a newer car, I'll have to
learn this eventually.

"print" it as a pdf then I could print out certain pages of the pdf
that I wanted)

This pdf linked in the page

http://www.mercedes.gen.in/Downloads/cs1000_mb.pdf

has all the codes, some are specific to particular cars/engines, I
went through and extracted all the tables for the SL600/V12 so when I
start reading stuff (and particular pins) I will be able to figure out
what it means.  There are still some parts of the system that this
simple method will not read, for that I would need a code reader
device that can talk to the system.  I could probably make on to plug
into each of the particular sockets that show data, then have a switch
for each, with my single pin reader you have to each one separately.
No big deal.  Got dark so I have not tested it on the car yet, but it
worked with a 9V battery.

I am afraid of what I might find!

I found the bits to solder it up in my electronics box -- a momentary
switch, an LED, wires, and a resister of about the right size.  I have
tons of this "junk" I have scavenged from old printers and scanners
and whatever, they are a treasure trove of electronic and small
mechanical bits of various kinds.  I have used a heat gun or little
torch to melt useful components off circuit boards -- switches, LEDs,
capacitors, transistors, other things of utility -- and have them more
or less organized in those square plastic jars rice comes in.

I shall report on my efforts, it's kinda interesting.

Sheesh!   "plastic jars rice comes in"???
We usta buy Riceland rice in 100 lb bags.  Now the biggest I can find is
25 lb.

But the best buy now is when the LA rice harvest comes in, you can by 5
lb bags for around $1.50 each.  (in LA and adjoining states, at least)

I got Zebra brand basmati rice in nice 10 lb zipper bags with handles at
the Paki store in Rochester, MN..  They are great for Jumper cables. One
set fits nicely in a rice bag, which in turn fits inside the spare
wheel  of your MB.

It’s super easy on a non fan clutch one. Should be easy after pulling the fan
and clutch

Re: [MBZ] M112/W210 Water Pump

2019-02-24 Thread Rich Thomas via Mercedes
I did the water pump on the $500E300, I took out the radiator to have
some room to work.  had to take the fan off too.  It wasn't a terribly
bad job, just annoying to have to take out other stuff to get to the WP,
which it turned out was OK, it was that stupid alternator clutch
pulley.  Replaced the hoses while I had the radiator out, figured it was
reasonable to do that too.  Was good, because the top one had a long
tear in it I couldn't see about ready to let go.

fun times!  Wonder how he got the tranny to work without all the MB
nannies keeping track of everything.  The engine management was probably
an interesting challenge too.
