Re: [MBZ] OT SpaceX launch from Cape Canaveral tonight
This reminds me of a mishap that happened almost four decades back. A KC-135 flight included several military folks and spouses. The 135 is a pre 707 with all-mechanical flight controls (i.e., wires and bell cranks). Pitch trim is controlled by black and white striped wheels on each side of the center console, just like in the video. The electric pitch trim is controlled by buttons on the yoke which run a motor to drive those trim wheels. You can physically grab the wheel to tweak the trim or stop run-away trim. The intercom push-to-talk button is also on the yoke. The theory is that a spouse in the pilot's seat accidently cranked in a lot of nose-down trim by hitting the trim button instead of the intercom. Eventually this trim exceeded the autopilot authority and the autopilot disengaged. Then, the excessive trim suddenly put the aircraft into a steep dive; the aircraft entered a terminal dive (Mach tuck) before the other pilot could regain control. The other pilot may have been pinned to the ceiling of the cabin or otherwise unable to reach the controls. All onboard died in the crash Scott > -Original Message- > From: Mercedes [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Dan > Penoff via Mercedes > Sent: Saturday, April 13, 2019 6:56 AM > To: Okie Benz > Cc: Dan Penoff > Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT SpaceX launch from Cape Canaveral tonight > > Go to the video in this link and start watching at about 27:00 in: > > https://www.spacex.com/news/2019/04/12/arabsat-6a-mission > > -D > > > > On Apr 12, 2019, at 9:26 PM, Craig via Mercedes > wrote: > > > > On Fri, 12 Apr 2019 21:22:07 -0400 Dan Penoff via Mercedes > > wrote: > > > >> The coolest part (I thought) was watching the two boosters land > >> almost simultaneously back at the Cape. > > > > I looked at > > > > https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-47903788, > > > > but there was no description of what was shown in the picture. Re: [MBZ] Craigslist
I would be happy to pay $5 to not use facebook. Nothing about facebook that I want to support or engage. The founder insults me and so does facebook. If I do a search on Craigslist for Mercedes it gives me "Mercedes" with no fluff. It lets me search either a local area, or national, and, it has reasonable venues built in to contact seller, if the seller does not wish to post a phone number, I can still contact them through Craigslist. Works good enough to get the job done, no frills, easy to understand. On Sun, Apr 14, 2019 at 8:15 PM Kaleb C. Home schooling is the only way to go IMHO. In many contests, they ban home school kids because the other kids don't have a chance. Re: [MBZ] Draining Torque Converter
Nearly all cars I’ve done this on I’ve been able to turn the engine from below. A deep 27mm socket is important of course, but the ratchet matters too. One with a swivel head will allow you to hook up to the socket and still clear the shroud. Done from under the car, you can put one hand on the TC and feel for the plug, and rotate the engine with the other. Draining the TC is very important, as is frequent changes. In a 722.0,.1,.2,.3,.4 I like to change at 20-25k. Call it overkill, but I’ve never had a transmission fail. And I use Febi 08971, which is outstanding in terms of transmission feeling and performance. Especially in the old fluid coupling boxes.
