In 1944, the top rate peaked at 94 percent on taxable income over $200,000 
($2.5 million in today’s dollars3). That’s a high tax rate. We've got a list 
member on Banned who wants to see it come back. 

If there was state and city income tax on top of it, I wonder if it was 
possible to owe more than 100% marginal rate? I have no idea how old NYS and 
NYC income tax is.

Typical failure here is the o-ring on the fuel line at the lift pump.  No leaks 
unless parked steeply nose down, but parking nose up will allow the fuel to 
drain back to the tank in the suction line.  Takes forever to pump up as it's 
leaking air in.

Also check the condition of the hoses on the suction side and on the fuel 
heater, leaks here allow air to get sucked in resulting in low fuel in the 
filter and hard (or no) start.

IIRC, the max tax rate when Eisenhower was president was just over 90% - so

Bottom line, NEVER run the fuel that low. Standard time to fill is at half
a tank, emergencies, etc. can let it get to 1/4 tank - never lower, and
that won't happen again unless there is a leak somewhere. Lots of air in
the tank leads to lots of water in the tank ...

If the strainer was crudded up part way, that might also cause a problem with 
fuel starvation at low levels, too.

the "double head banjo bolt" that holds the overflow/return hose to the 
back of the IP is a check valve.  They are not expensive to buy a new 
one.  There are also valves in the transfer pump.

Insurance companies' intended customers are salvage yards / used parts dealers. 

Seems the reasonable thing to do with most of the burn cars would be to have 
them hauled to a scrap metal dealer instead of the salvage auction. I can't 
imagine selling a single part off a car that literally burned to the ground. 

I wanted to buy a Delorean a couple of years ago. 
I clicked on the item page because I thought somebody had posted a picture of a 
roadkilled animal by mistake and I was curious as to what it was. It didn't 
even look like a motor vehicle in the thumbnail sized pic, but in the full 
sized pics you could make out some car parts in the melted rubble. 

The $60 minimum bid wasn't a deterrent, but the cost to haul it home from 
Kentucky was. 
I thought it'd look great hanging on the garage wall under a sign that said 
"1.21 Gigawatts, Baby!". I forgot to watch the auction and see what it sold 
for.

Oh, it wasn't US tariffs we caught them dodging, it was Nigerian tariffs.
I'm not sure why we're spending our money prosecuting that, wouldn't it have 
been easier to just tell Nigeria what they were doing and let the Nigerians 
prosecute it?

Once upon a time, we didn't have income taxes. 
We ran the entire government on import tariffs, such as our friends importing 
'junk' luxury care are accused of evading.  

Then in 1913, we decided to Tax The Rich. 
Those with incomes over 500k (in 1913 dollars) had to pay income tax. 
The bottom tax bracket was 1%, the highest was 7%.
But the tax camel's nose was in the tent. 
In 1916, the Revenue Act doubled taxes, now the tax rates were 2-15%.
So 1917's federal budget was nearly as much as the country spent in total from 
1791-1916.
In October 1917, the War Revenue Act not only drastically raised taxes, it 
slashed exemptions from 500k to 40k. Tax rates jumped from 2-15% to 16-67%. 
Yep, if you made more than 1.5Million, you faced a confiscatory tax rate of 
67%, up from 0% just five years earlier.

I phone and text on my iPhone, that’s pretty much it. I don’t need a phablet 
strapped to my waist. I had a 6S and hated every minute of it because it was so 
big. Couldn’t carry it in my pocket. Got rid of it and went to an SE and never 
looked back.

I’m not interested in something to surf the Interwebs, for that I’ll go to a 
desktop or laptop computer.
