I bought and and installed Lemforder ball joints in my 1983 240D a couple of
weeks ago. I took the arms off the car, clamped them in my big vice and used
the generic press from local Advance Auto. I used 1/2 breaker bar and 3’ pipe.
It was strenuous but they both went in straight and true.

Those are the awful 5 mph government mandated bumpers, I believe.. yuck.

And I think that 300SEL 6.3 is a very nice car, and priced reasonably if all is
well. Definitely something you want to flip, as maintenance and upkeep would
eat you alive.

ordered by mistake and the supplier won’t take them back. So much for being
honest, I guess…

While the are Lemförder mounts, they are made in China. I don’t know what that
means, if it’s good or bad, but I’ve used these before without issues and the
ones that are in service are still doing well after two years.

First $50.00 for the pair shipped to anywhere in the CONUS.

2019-04-17 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Actually I think you and Kaleb are right. I thought the FASTEN BELTS
light was working properly but I just checked and it it not.

The BRAKE light works with the parking brake as it should. The brake
wear light, which looks like (O), comes on momentarily when the key is
first turned on. The FASTEN BELTS light does not come on at all, unless
I step moderately hard on the brakes.

So my guess is -- a prior owner has switched the bulb holders, and
possibly also bypassed the seat belt switch.

Re: [MBZ] W116 brake wear indicator

Yes. What's weird is that it also is working normally as the FASTEN
BELTS light. Maybe I have a bad ground behind the dash somewhere.

[MBZ] W116 brake wear indicator

2019-04-17 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Does the W116 use the FASTEN BELTS light as a brake wear alert?

In my '79 300SD I am seeing that light come on with moderate/heavy
braking (not light braking).

The light pulsates at first and then becomes steady as brake pressure
increases.

Re: [MBZ] 129

2019-04-17 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Doubt it.

As an example, look at the 107s. You can still pick up a decent 107 for under
$10k. The community’s response to the R129s has always been “meh” since they
came out. Using the “later is always better” theory, the 98-99 models would be
some of the most desirable, but in reality, stick to 97 and later and you avoid
all the issues the earlier models had as well as gain a better transmission and
redesigned and more reliable ACC system.

Again, 97 and later is really all one needs to know. There are a couple of
outliers in the “anniversary” and "Silver Arrow” models, but they’re relatively
rare and priced accordingly.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’m not sure if it’s just this car
or the model itself, but my 97 R129 has been by far the most reliable and
trouble free Mercedes I’ve owned after my 1982 300SD.
