In looking at the service manual on changing the thermostat, I have
discovered the OM602.962 has its thermostat in the return hose from
the radiator and low on the block, not in the supply hose to the
radiator and high on the block like every other vehicle I have seen.

When our family was driving old Mercedes, the rule was that we needed N+1
running cars, for those times when one would need something, dropping the
number down to N.

correct, and you don't want to mess with a fluid and filter change, then

A month ago I put the magic sealant into the system in my '95 E300, due to
the leaking evaporator. So far the AC performance has not changed, so I
think the charge is holding, but it was a slow leaker before. The day
after I installed the sealant / new dryer / fresh charge of 134a, I used my
