I run NoScript, too, and, no, I am not amazed at the number of scripts which run. What is amazing is the numbers of levels of scripts. If I have a web page which I really want to see, I can select "Temporarily allow all this page." When I do that, often another batch of websites come up which want to run their own scripts. When I repeat the "Temporarily allow all this page", sometimes yet another batch of websites comes up. I occasionally have to do the "Temporarily allow all this page", four or five times. Then you have scripts running from 35 - 45 different web sites. Grant, I saved your earlier comment about facebook, which I thought was classic: While as a business owner for most of my life I can appreciate the exposure given by a listing on Facebook, my personal objection is this: In order to even see your listings on Facebook, I am required to JOIN facebook. Immediately upon joining facebook my entire contact with the internet is suddenly overwhelmed with popups and trash generated by my contact with facebook. Something I very much do not desire. Suddenly, I have emails from companies and people who I have no desire to have contact with ONLY by virtue of having ONCE made contact with, and "joined" facebook. It then takes nothing short of overwhelming effort to remove yourself from all those "contact points" that have been generated without your agreement. It is, in my considered opinion, the social and electronic equal to deliberately giving yourself herpes. Now you will also want to set up your computer so any inadvertent contact from your computer to facebook and other non-desirable sites, whether from web beacons or something hidden in a particular web page's code, is prohibited. I found winhelp2002.mvps.org, which provides a script which modifies one's host file (the file which defines the addresses for specific web sites before your computer goes out on the web to a Domain Name Server to look for the site's address -- if the address is found in the host file, your computer does not go out on the web). The script on this web site adds to your hosts file over 14,000 web sites with which you do not want contact and sets it so your computer sends any requests to contact them to your systems "bit bucket" so they never your system. In addition to all that, I add my own definitions, which include all of the facebook, et al., URLs I know (perhaps there are more that I don't know -- it would be nice to be able to browse a Name Server's database): # Don't let requests for Facebook leave the system. # 127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com 127.0.0.1 facebook.com 127.0.0.1 connect.facebook.net 127.0.0.1 facebook.net 127.0.0.1 ads.facebook.com 127.0.0.1 ads.ak.facebook.com 127.0.0.1 apps.facebook.com 127.0.0.1 xx-fbcdn-01-01-lga1.facebook.com 127.0.0.1 business.facebook.com # Don't let requests for Pinterest leave the system. # 127.0.0.1 www.pinterest.com 127.0.0.1 pinterest.com 127.0.0.1 assets.pinterest.com # Don't let requests for Twitter leave the system. # 127.0.0.1 www.twitter.com 127.0.0.1 twitter.com 127.0.0.1 ads.twitter.com 127.0.0.1 ads-twitter.com 127.0.0.1 www.twittercounter.com 127.0.0.1 twittercounter.com # Block Shirley from seeing the Taste of Home order page, so # she won't order a new subscription of the magazine AGAIN! # 127.0.0.1 order.tasteofhome.com 127.0.0.1 www.shoptasteofhome.com 127.0.0.1 *.shoptasteofhome.com # Don't let requests for Google analytics leave the system. # From http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38=2453819 # 127.0.0.1 www.google-analytics.com 127.0.0.1 google-analytics.com 127.0.0.1 ssl.google-analytics.com 127.0.0.1 googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 pagead.googlesyndication.com 127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com 127.0.0.1 domains.googlesyndication.com 127.0.0.1 adservices.google.com 127.0.0.1 video-stats.video.google.com 127.0.0.1 4.afs.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 imageads.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 imageads1.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 imageads2.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 imageads3.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 imageads4.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 imageads5.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 imageads6.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 imageads7.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 imageads8.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 imageads9.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 partner.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 www.googleadservices.com 127.0.0.1 apps5.oingo.com 127.0.0.1 www.appliedsemantics.com 127.0.0.1 service.urchin.com Hope that helps! [MBZ] Finnie Fun!
Yup, I’ve gotten back in the flow on the finnie. I won’t have the blog post up tonight probably, but in a nutshell I replaced both rear swing arm bushings and frame bushings (sort of like subframe mounts without a subframe - the big donut shaped bushing where the front of the swing arm bolts to the body.) These bushings have a 36mm nut on both sides of the bracket on the axle tube that are absolute pigs to get loose, especially after 50+ years. Fortunately I had lots and lots of Kroil and a 36mm socket that was ground down so it could cover the bolt head and nothing more. Using a large “C” clamp to hold the socket and breaker bar in place on one side, a 6’ piece of pipe provided adequate leverage to break them loose on the outside. The inside bolt head is accessible by an impact wrench, so those were easy. I blew an hour trying to jig up some sort of press, as the bushings have to be compressed in order to place a large washer over the center sleeve and secure it with a “C” clip. You put a clip and washer on one side, put the sleeve though the bushings, then compress the bushings and washers so you can get the “C” clip in place on the other side. Got that done and the first (right) side back in place with a new front pushing and spring pad. Left side went pretty well and with the assistance of my youngest running the floor jack to get the swing arm lined up and back in position and I was done. Oh, yeah - I installed the refinished wood trim on the right side door cards, too. So here’s what I have left that I can think of: Remove, refinish and install wood trim on left side door cards. Replace firewall material and rodentally masticated wiring harness braid/jacket in engine compartment Minor rust repair at the leading edge of both rocker panels. And that’s it! -D ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Driving our Peterbilt to Albuquerque one day, a gal in a 4-wheeler moved to the right too close to the truck, so I had to hit the brake a little. The next time she passed (I don't recall why I passed her), I was ready and honked the air horn as she started to move right at the same distance. Somehow in traffic I passed her a third time. Re: [MBZ] Finally had enough of the 123 fakebook
The reinventthewheel people are whack jobs and I can’t even begin to imagine are a long term profitable concern, in my opinion. I think it’s one of those “we think we have a gold mine and we want to share the wealth” deals with their constant offers to sell interest in the company. What this really means is “we don’t have a viable business or the cash to maintain one, so we need some suckers to step up and give us money”, I believe. I will defer to your comment about the “point and click” stuff. I am constantly amazed at the stuff I see on eBay for older cars like my W111 that the ask for a used part is two or three times the cost of a brand new one from Mercedes. Are people that lazy or stupid (or both?) that they can’t do a little due diligence to find this stuff? -D > On Jun 23, 2019, at 6:09 PM, Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes > wrote: > > Tell that to the reinventingthewheel dudes. > > I think there is a ton of value in making a website where people only have > to point and click to buy a used part. Re: [MBZ] Finally had enough of the 123 fakebook
Yep, the guy does not know his ass from a hole in the ground. He talks like he runs a shop and supposedly works on these cars for a living yet lacks some of the basic tools you would need to do many of the jobs and give very dangerous advise sometimes. All the fools there listen to him and ignore real advice from people who know. I see him listing parts on the there every once and a while such as a 123 hazard switch for $60. I made some comment about how I must be sitting on a gold mine. Last year sometime he made a trip out west somewhere as was talking about how he was going to meet up with people along the way to haul them parts and pickup parts and junk. I mentioned something about how he would be within 20 miles of Okie Acres and I have a barn and shop full of 123 parts as well as 80 cars, a sight to behold. I know if I was making a trip like that I would sure want to stop by. Nope, never acknowledged the comment or contacted me. Oh well. I think he will one day find out aside from the small bubble or morons, there is really not a lot of value in all of those parts. There is some dude in AZ that was trying to run some sort of 123 used parts business and he died. He had around 3 mini storage units full of parts that they can't seem to give away. When this guy in KY moves on from 123 on to rice burners or whatever he will have a crap load of junk to get rid of. [MBZ] 500SEC is a 560SEC
I went by to look at this car today. Guy told me his address and I had a name and it clicked, I knew of his (turned out to be) father, an old black minister who had this gorgeous late 70s Benz I saw him driving a few years ago. They all live over in this area called Red Top. I asked him about that and the guy told me it was his father, and he had bought that car for him. He had a coupla new Benzes at his house, an SDL sitting out back, and this 560SEC. Guy tells me his truck, which he was working on, has a 617 in it from a 300SD but he killed the transmission because it couldn't pull much, so he was swapping in a Chevy tranny to go behind the 617. And he had put a bigger turbo on the 617 to get a bit more grunt. h. I go look at the car, looks OK as a 40footer, cheap respray but body looked straight but no telling what was under it. Interior wasn't too bad. Black on black. It started right up but was clattering, I thought it was a bad valve but he says no its #5 lifter, I have another one in the trunk and a valve cover gasket, just hadn't done anything with it because he had lost interest in the car. He had bought it, his boy assumed it and drove it 2-3 years, went back to school so the car has been sitting there for a coupla years and he wants it gone. Said some other guy had come to look at it this morning, was gonna come back with money but never showed. I told him if I was interested I would want to work on him a bit on the price, he said sure... which suggests he just wants it gone. So anyway, he listed it at $1500, could probably shave a coupla-3 hundred off that, and you would have a reasonable beater 560SEC to roar around in. I am not particularly tempted at the moment, already having this one I drive and the other one I got for $300. But if anyone wants a fun beater coupe, let me know -- --FT ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] How Much AC Compressor Oil?
6oz sounds like system capacity, much of it in the condenser. That said, if 6 is the spec I'd rather have 7oz and reduced performance than 5oz and reduced life. You need to find the specs for individual component replacement, but if your system was leaking, the components you don't change might have less oil in them than expected. With a new condenser and used compressor in my Saturn, I drained the compressor and put in the oil capacities of the condenser/drier and compressor plus 1/2oz for safety. I'm sure it's a bit over-oiled, but it's still cooling great 3 years later and I'm not worried about seizing the compressor. I haven't been in the English subforum on the CrazyFinn site in years. Does anybody know the maximum efficient power from either of the two 617 turbos? The Finns told me that my VNT from a 2005 CDI became too inefficient above 250hp (I think the CDI makes about 220hp stock, so it's a perfectly sized turbo for the car it came from). I wouldn't be surprised if the turbo in my 1979 SD was good for 150hp or more. [MBZ] How Much AC Compressor Oil?
The compressor has very little oil in it, about 10 or 20 ml. The FSM has confused me. For an OM603 engine, procedure 83-525, new oil capacity in AC Compressor is listed at 160 ml for r134 at the start of the procedure, but than as you read through it looks like the section about repair of AC compressor, only add 20 ml for compressor and fluid reservoir (receiver/dryer). I am assuming (Danger!) that 160 ml is the total capacity of the system, and I should only add 20 ml to the compressor before I re-install. - Max Charleston SC ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] More FB loosering
My top 25 mile average in the Cruzer is 64.1 mpg, might have hit 65 if I didn't have to use the brakes for a yellow light as I rolled into town. Then I turned around and went home, could barely manage 56mpg on the return trip, so the 64 was the product of a tailwind. But nearly 60mpg round trip is better than I could have done setting my cruze control at the 55mph minimum. What works for me on the freeway, at least without significant crosswinds, is to set up 150-200' behind a semi rig. That way I get better MPG at 63-67 mph than I can manage at 55 on my own. The semi gives a bit of a draft effect even at that distance, and it keeps most of the traffic from cutting me off because they just stay in the left lane until they pass the truck. For some reason, about ten percent of the drivers around here think lane discipline means crossing the centerline while you're still beside the car you're passing, in order to get back in the right lane ASAP, even when there's absolutely nobody behind you in the left lane. They do it to truckers too, which must be real fun when your new truck has automatic braking. That said their christmas tree (stepped) bits are really good, especially considering the price. I bought myself a small set of Cle-line drill bits and they've completely spoiled me... -Curt On Sunday, June 23, 2019, 10:03:13 AM EDT, Floyd Thursby via Mercedes wrote: Last day for some deals, I see they have this drill bit set for $5 https://www.harborfreight.com/titanium-drill-bit-set-29-pc-61637.html I am going to an autocross up that way, I might stop by and get another set, they are pretty decent and for that price hard to go wrong. $5 for one of those multi-tools too, I might pick one up too. -- --FT ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] More FB loosering
Which reminds me, I've been watching the instant read mpg gauge on my Jetta and learning how to drive to get the best mileage, its raised my average by about 5mpg and I think theres more to gain even without really going into hypermiling, read as driving everyone around me crazy. The biggest change was limiting my speed to 65mph or less, that probably bought me 2mpg by itself. The difference between 80 and 70 was nearly nothing but getting to 65 or less was a big jump, I think 55 will probably gain me some more but I would want to commute outside of rush hour to do it... -Curt On Sunday, June 23, 2019, 3:08:10 AM EDT, fmiser via Mercedes wrote: > Floyd wrote: > Since I have to do mechanical work anyway is there anyway > possible to make a 80 300d non turbo get 40-45 mpg overdrive > transmission different air intake whatever please help thanks in > advance Yup. Upgrade the pistons, ceramic coat the pistons, upgrade the oiling system, add a dual turbo or a variable displacement turbo, remove all the extra weight in the car. Seat cushions, door panels, head liner, spare tire. Cut out all un-needed sheet metal. Doors, hood, roof, floor - anyplace possible. Improve the aerodynamics by reshaping the back window and truck, remove exterior mirrors, hood ornament. Then tune and setup so the turbo is contributing at 1500 RPM and gear it so at 1500 RPM the road speed is no more than 45 MPH. Never drive faster, learn from the hypermilers how to squeeze distance from fuel. That should get you to at least 40 miles per gallon. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I bet if you put a TDI engine in it you could come close... IIRC the 123 turbos get better fuel economy than the non-turbos which makes sense, IIRC (again) diesel engines are like 30% more efficient with a turbo than without. -Curt On Saturday, June 22, 2019, 4:53:03 PM EDT, Floyd Thursby via Mercedes wrote: Since I have to do mechanical work anyway is there anyway possible to make a 80 300d non turbo get 40-45 mpg overdrive transmission different air intake whatever please help thanks in advance -- --FT ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
