up at the crusher.  looks like the engine is trashed and it is rusty.
It did get a kühlmeister.

[MBZ] Uh! Oh!

2019-09-13 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes

Emissions from diesel cars – even newer and supposedly cleaner models –
increase on hot days, a new study has found, raising questions over how cities
suffering from air pollution can deal with urban heat islands and the climate
crisis.

Research in Paris by The Real Urban Emissions (True) initiative found that
diesel car emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) rose by 20% to 30% when
temperatures topped 30C – a common event this summer.

Emissions from a range of vehicles were found to be many times higher than
those declared by manufacturers in laboratory tests, confirming earlier
findings following the 2015 Dieselgate scandal, in which Volkswagen cars were
found to emit 40 times more NOx on the road than during laboratory tests.

Certain pollutants from motorcycles – often considered a cleaner alternative to
four-wheeled vehicles – were also found to “greatly exceed” averages for both
petrol and diesel carssnip

[MBZ] 190D fuel gauge

2019-09-13 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes
The tank sender on the 190D was stuck so I pulled it out and cleaned it
up as best as I could.  I put it back in and it worked when tank was
full, but jumped around sometimes.  Now the tank has about 260 miles on
it so I figure it is at about the half mark. It was jumping around and
would drop all the way to the bottom, then come back to where the level
should be.  For the last 40 miles or so it is just completely dead.
Should I pull the sender out and try to clean it some more, or spend the
money on a new one?  Or some other issue?

For euro import car? Like the slave cylinder - standard part for USA
car did not work. Transmission, AC, sunroof, etc seems probable the
same USA versus euro import. Stu was saying the 250 engine parts are
NLA, period. Sure they make special order parts from scratch but that
is not what I want.

If the needle flickers, the rotational speed of the cable is not constant.

If the rotation speed of the cable is not constant, it will be as if the
vehicle was changing speeds instantaneously -- something it would be very
difficult for the cruise control to follow.

I would first get the cable/speedometer working properly before trying to
see if the cruise control works properly.

[MBZ] Riken tires

This $600E320 has a fairly new set of Riken Raptor tires on it. tirerack
reviews suggest they are not bad for cheaper tires. Anyone had any
experience with them?  I have a nearly new set of the Kumhos on the
$500E300 I could swap but these look OK.

We have Princess Auto in Canada and much of the stock that they have

Well problem not solved. It is current 74 and when driving down the highway it
after about 10 minutes the fog starts followed by snow flakes then freezing up.
It literally feels like sitting in front of a deep freeze. Compressor still
appears to not be cycling. Is there a way I can test the evap temp sensor?
Maybe the wiring repair was not successful so maybe I can test it at the
connector to see. Otherwise would it be something in the relay or the pbu that
is not cycling the compressor? I suppose I can also recover the refrigerant and
charge it again but I do not think that is the problem. If a low charge was
causing it to freeze up the evap sensor should be cutting the compressor off I
would think.

You could likely make something that would work on top of a floor jack.
The adapters generally just drop into the hole from which you remove the
saddle. Bolt on a chunk of 3/4 plywood and put some side rails of some
sort on or wrap a ratchet strap around it to keep it from falling off.

Re: [MBZ] 722.3 trans update

2019-09-13 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Actually I think HF has raised their quality standard significantly. Dad
bought a battery powered electric chainsaw that I fully expected to be junk
that is surprisingly good. We've mostly used it for close limbing on trees. Cut
the branch with clippers, then trim the stub right to the trunk with the saw
once all the limbs are gone, works a treat.
Based on that I'm seriously considering HF for my next cordless drill. My 12
year old Craftsman 19v is still going okay but I'm down to one battery and that
one is starting to get a little soft. They're only NiCd batteries, I wonder if
its worth trying to rebuild the bad one. I think its just got one bad cell,
it'll take charge but has no oomph. I haven't checked voltage but I bet its low.

Seller's Description

Mercedes 300td wagon. Engine runs nicely and trans shifts well. But it
needs work to be put back on the road, it has been sitting for a long
time. Rust in spots, calipers sticking, windows don't move. Probably a
parts vehicle. But could be a nice cheap daily driver if a little money
is invested. Personally I purchased for the engine, but a change in
business means I no longer have time to use it as I intended.

Tropical storm warning issued in Bahamas as potential storm develops
By
Alex Sosnowski, Accuweather.com
The system could bring tropical storm or hurricane conditions to the Bahamas
even though it's not an organized storm. Photo courtesy of NOAA

Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Forecasters on Thursday continued to keep a close eye on
Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, a cluster of showers and thunderstorms slowly
organizing over the Bahamas.

While the tropical disturbance could strengthen and move over the eastern
waters of the Gulf of Mexico, new information suggests it could also become
more organized late this week and perhaps turn northward along the United
States Atlantic coast early next week.

The disturbance, originally dubbed 95L, became Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine
on Thursday afternoon and follows Category 5 Hurricane Dorian, which slammed
the northern Bahamas last week. If this system were to become a tropical storm,
it would be called Humberto.

A potential tropical cyclone means that it is expected to bring tropical storm
or hurricane conditions to land in the next 48 hours, even though it is not yet
a named tropical system.
RELATED Dorian: 50 dead, 2,500 registered missing in the Bahamas

As of 8 p.m. EDT Thursday, the center of the system was about 235 miles
southeast of Great Abaco Island with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph.
Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the northwestern Bahamas,
including Grand Bahama Island.

At this time, there are several large clusters of thunderstorms from the
northern shores of Hispaniola and Cuba to the southern and central Bahamas.

Hurricane hunters began to investigate the disturbance on Thursday afternoon.
RELATED Civil War cannonballs found on South Carolina beach after Dorian

"We are encouraging all residents, visitors and interests across the Bahamas,
Florida and Cuba to closely monitor the progression of Potential Tropical Cyclone
Nine," according to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski.

How fast the disturbance strengthens may help determine its track in the coming
days.

"Should the disturbance remain poorly organized, it has a greater chance of drifting
along a more westward path across southern Florida and into the Gulf of Mexico,"
according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Rob Miller.
RELATED Forests in Grand Bahama unrecognizable after Dorian

"On the other hand, should the disturbance ramp up to a tropical depression or
strong tropical storm, it has a greater chance of taking a more northern track toward the
northern Bahamas and along the southern Atlantic coast of the U.S.," Miller said.

In addition to the strength of the tropical feature itself being a steering
factor, there are other features nearby that are players. One is the western
extent of an area of high pressure over the Atlantic near Bermuda. The other is
a storm in the upper atmosphere over the northern Gulf of Mexico.

The flow between both of these features will create a northwestward drift of
the tropical system. Should the high pressure area remain strong and the storm
over the Gulf move quickly to the west, it could block the northward path.
Should the high pressure area weaken and the storm over the Gulf hold its
ground, the potential tropical cyclone may be forced to take the East Coast
track.
