Try a strong solution of baking soda and water... more liquid than a paste,
on corroded battery cables and posts..
The corrosion is sulfuric acid oxide.. baking soda is a base... so they
chemically cancel each other.
Your cables will come quite clean after a soak and a little scrub.

Absolutely. Drop it on a tube frame, use some modern suspension and drivetrain,
sleeper hot rod. I got to thinking, pull everything from the wrecked $500E300
and build it up , that would be so cool.

I thought they used to call this Worth astral grey...or am I thinking of
something else. The mind wanders and the little grey cells don't like up as
good as they used to.

I took out the battery from the $600E320, I had tried to charge it and
no bueno, so decided to swap in the other one. the neg terminal that
was all corroded broke off when I tried to loosen the copper clamp nut,
The gasser pumps are set up differently I think, only diesel pumps are a direct
fit. I suspect a gasser pump could be modified to work, but I haven't explored
that yet.

As someone mentioned, use the Würth silver wheel paint as it’s an exact match.
I never primed any of the wheels I painted and didn’t have later issues with
adhesion. That’s both after media blasting or just painting over the existing
finish.

True, but that can be a lot of sifting and winnowing. When I needed the
ASD differential for my '95 E300, I had to call each potential junkyard and
get the VIN, run the VIN to make sure the car had ASD, and then call back
to order it. Go through five yards, and that gets old quickly.
