Re: [MBZ] Got the $600E320 buttoned up -- BATTERY + AA Coupon

2019-10-06 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Try a strong solution of baking soda and water... more liquid than a paste,
on corroded battery cables and posts..
The corrosion is sulfuric acid oxide.. baking soda is a base... so they
chemically cancel each other.
Your cables will come quite clean after a soak and a little scrub.

Absolutely. Drop it on a tube frame, use some modern suspension and drivetrain,

2019-10-06 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
went and got the battery out of the wrecked $500E300 and have it on the
charger.

I took out the battery from the $600E320, I had tried to charge it and
no bueno, so decided to swap in the other one.  the neg terminal that
was all corroded broke off when I tried to loosen the copper clamp nut,
so that was a bit of an ordeal to get it out of the clamp.  I've got to
soak the clamp in something to clean off all the corrosion goop.

It's a Benz battery, I couldn't see a date code on it anywhere, I'm
wondering if I should go by the dealer and see if they will give me any
consideration on a new one since this one corroded up and the terminal
broke.  I've never seen a terminal break off like that.  Weird.  It
might be too old to trade in for anything but I guess it is worth a try,
though it seemed to be cranking fine when I went to get the car so it
seemed like it was holding a charge fine.   If not I'll just take it to
the scrap yard and get a few $$ for it.

I'm gonna go work on the door latch now, see what's going on with that.

Got more tranny fluid yesterday, I think I have one of those dipstick
things to check level but I should probably run it a bit to get some
pumped into the TC, then fill it.

BTW I tried to order the tranny fluid the other day with a 20% Advance
Auto code but their website was down (how does that even happen?).  Was
out doing errands and decided to stop by the store, found the code on my
phone email and ordered it on the parking lot for store pickup.  $30
jug, $7.50 off, which is 25% so I guess that was a good deal, walked in,
grabbed the jug, showed the guy the purchase code, was out of there in
about 30sec.

Re: [MBZ] Fwd: SL diff mounts r129

2019-10-06 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
If they have pics, often the auction photo of the doorframe sticker is included.
That's how I found the donors of the fender and hood on my Green-Black metallic
(Black Opal) ML350. I still can't believe I found two W163s that color in SE
Michigan. Both were listed as blue, but I looked at dozens of blue MLs to find
those two.

The local refinisher charges 175 per wheel to make them perfect. I can make
them semi perfect for about twenty bucks.

2019-10-06 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
As someone mentioned, use the Würth silver wheel paint as it’s an exact match.

I never primed any of the wheels I painted and didn’t have later issues with
adhesion. That’s both after media blasting or just painting over the existing
finish.
