Re: [MBZ] DEBT WUZ: (no subject)
Banker wants everything you own as collateral. Often done when you have more than one loan, like a home loan and a business loan, or a home and a car loan. Best way to steal a house in states where your home is protected in bankruptcy. I learned of it when our ins. agent went under in 1988. He was a great guy, Navy veteran, mid 50s at the time. They had 3 rental houses. tenants trashed one. THat started a cascade. He relinquished 4 houses to the bank. The Ins co. found out about it, and pulled his franchise. He was out with nothing to show for a lifetime of "doing things the right way." They rented from us for a while, then moved to PHX and ran a self storage place, on duty pretty much 24/7 in exchange for a place to live. He died a few years into it. I am sure his demise was greatly accelerated by the bank's actions. The collateral forfeited was far in excess of the loan. Re: [MBZ] 1980 300SD
Andrew, we've owned this car since about 1996. It was originally purchased by a lady doctor when new and she kept it meaning to give it to one of her kids...but they didn't want it. Anyway, right before we got it from a small car lot, she had had it to the local MB dealership in Atlanta for a complete service (around $900 in 1996). We've taken it on numerous trips and my wife drove it daily to work for many years. Now that we are retired, it has been sitting mostly for the past several years. I'm getting ready to reactivate it with new brake lines, hoses, belts, valve adjustment just to start. Later, I plan a complete front suspension work, a new AC kit, and new rear axles. It will cost a little, but the car is still great inside (had the leather seats and pads replaced after we got it) and the body is solid. I replaced the transmission 2 years ago with one that had 95,000 miles on it. The engine starts quickly and it has great power. I installed new tires last year. It's a great road trip car and the mileage is good (28-30mpg). As I tell people, it's just getting broke in. I could see it going to a million. Thanks for asking and pardon my long reply. Do the normal testing on inner pivots. If they are at all loose, it's easier to replace the control arm complete if you have a means of getting the alignment close enough to drive to an alignment shop. Otherwise, replacing the inner bushings requires making a tool, they are swaged in place and can be a pain. I've not replaced any of mine, even at 400k miles. Re: [MBZ] (no subject)
SWMBA thinks along those lines. New cars are “more reliable” so cost less to keep on the road. Steaming Pile She has not taken the thing she drives to the shop for other than oil changes in the past six years and 50k miles. Tossing $20k + paying it off all that time and no visit to keep it running right? She gets the jeep from her co-worker who claims it had all dealer service. The thing comes with close to 140k miles and gets no service these past four years. Now she wants to send it to the crusher, as it is falling apart from lack of service. The solution she came up with was to spend $10k to get a teenaged car with 100k on the clock last autumn. This spring she changes her tune to needing something with less than a decade of wear and maybe $18k. Which has changed to five years old, under 50k miles and maybe $25k this past month. This week the car has to be same new, but under 30k miles and the price has jumped to around $30k. Then add the $2500 to ship it up from teh lower 48. All I wanted was to be allowed to drive my ’82 SD, bring up my tools and spend enough to fix the OM617. clay > On Oct 23, 2019, at 12:24 PM, Randy Bennell via Mercedes > wrote > > Because, they are unable or unwilling to do any work on vehicles themselves, > and they fear the cost of having anything repaired in a shop. Thanks for the kind words on my wife's car. I'm getting ready to do some much needed normal maintenance. And no Andrew, it would take a lot more than $500. It only has around 420,000 miles and on dino oil no less. Thanks again, Roger Roger Hale Dinnerware Classics, Inc. I drive right past BH mercedes twice a day so it is a natural option and making two trips is easy. Of course aftermarket is often best, so it doesnt help for that stuff. Tom Hanson gives a nice wholesale discount and ships of course and is very responsive. Re: [MBZ] buying parts is starting to suck
I haven't tried that, but in the past when I've gone in to our local dealer, which is a long drive on the other side of town, their deal was pay in advance and then make another trip later when the parts arrive to pick them up. No thanks is my reply to that deal, my time is more valuable, I'd rather order on line and have them delivered to my home, and the price is usually better. If they were closer or on my usual commute route, I might go down that path and develop a nice relationship (Dan told me all his secrets, among them are pizza and donut deliveries) but given the geography as it stands, not worth it to me. Dealer recently opened a branch location just a few miles away, very convenient, I need to stop by and see if they have a parts desk. - Max Charleston SC On Wed, Oct 23, 2019 at 2:38 PM Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > Just print out the part list with all the prices from whatever website you > like, walk into the dealer and tell them you want these parts and will they > match the price.
