Yeah, play in steering is never good. Once I ignored that in a car and drove a couple hundred miles in a day. At the end of my journey I made a sharp right turn, and the left front wheel separated when a ball joint let go. Then there was the time the front subframe on my 1975 Civic rusted out and let go of its end of the left track rod.
