Asphalt shingles? Depending what grade of shingle was used, they are good for 20-30 years. So I'd guess a 2004 roof would be getting close to fully depreciated. [MBZ] Variation/accuracy in feeler gauges
Was checking valve clearances on the Karmann Ghia tonight. Spec is .006" or .15mm. I have two sets of feeler gauges. One is metric, Craftsman brand, that I've had since the 1980s. The other is in thousandths, KD Tools brand, picked up at a parts shop probably at least 15-20 years ago. I noticed that the .006" gauge on the KD Tools set felt noticably thicker than the .15mm on the Craftsman set. So I thought I'd try to verify which one was correct. I don't have a micrometer but have an old Craftsman vernier caliper (probably from the 1950s, was my Dads) as well as a dial indicator that I think I bought at Sears about 10 years ago (unbranded, but "Made in USA"). The caliper (if I correctly remembered how to read it) measured the Craftsman feeler gauge right at .006", and measured the KD Tools gauge at .010". I set up the dial indicator by clamping it to the rip fence of my table saw, so that the plunger was in contact with the table. I then slipped each feeler gauge under the contact point. The Craftsman gauge read .008" and the KD Tools gauge read .012" so slightly different but consistent. Guess I'll go with the Craftsman as the more accurate one. Never imagined there would be that big a difference. Might pick up a micrometer at Harbor Freight just to see what it says. Actually I think I am going to be screwed on the rental house. I have it insured as a rental property rather than homeowners. Most likely, unless it’s an M112, which it probably isn’t. I believe the M112 350 was only used until 2005. M272 (balance shaft engine) was used from 2006 onward, the bad ones between 2006 and 2008 roughly. Since they are familiar with Sprinters and put plenty of miles on them, I figured that they must know something about the Blutec system. It’s the short trips that are the worst. I hope it runs for a long time. I’ll never buy another emissions choked Diesel! I was thinking about a pre-2007 Sprinter T1N with the in-line 5 2.7L if I can find one, or a Suburban/Yukon or a Ford Expedition (I’m sure there are plenty of those in NC). The nearest MB dealer is in Charlotte, nearly 70 miles away. My BIL would be happy to help me service and maintain it, so I’m more inclined to get something older and cheaper, especially since it won’t be driven daily. The area is served by Uber and Lyft so we’re not stuck without rides even when we don’t have a driver. I never believe the "AC just needs a recharge" line. If that's all it needs, why doesn't the seller do it and remove it as an issue in the sale? [MBZ] 1990 300E - 109k miles - $8,750
Hinsdale is a wealthy suburb, owner probably had the $$$ to keep the car up as claimed. Does look nice, probably is worth top of market for all the documented maintenance. Reasonable "OBO" might take it. https://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/d/western-springs-super-clean-1990/7360507097.html Allan ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Worth a look. Also worth a pre purchase inspection to see how well that transmission change was done, if it will start and run.
