[MBZ] OT job offers

2021-09-16 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
Ever since our company laid off 300 people, many of us have been hounded by
recruiters because our company had a stellar reputation in the industry. I have
talked to a few companies and one caught my interest. It’s a much smaller
company which means they probably do not have as good of a company contribution
for insurance etc. They are a fairly new company but they have been around
since 2010 and deal primarily on the fixed ops side of things. They actually
started off dealing with body shops and have 20k customers so they seem to be
legit. Anyway, a salary range was discussed and I did let them know I would
have to be at the top of their range due to my experience. They agreed with
that. Anyway, Tuesday afternoon they call and say they would like to move
forward and will send me an offer the next day. I have no idea what the offer
is but as of yet I still have not received anything. Since they perused me I am
debating on if I should reach out and see where they are with sending the
offer. If so, what is a normal period of time to wait.

Quite possibly emissions-related. Igniting cold fuel would have higher

[MBZ] 2004 MB E320 4Matic Thermostat Replacement Question

2021-09-16 Thread Robert Koziak via Mercedes
Hi All.
Today I finally got around to replacing the water pump on my 2004 E320
4Matic (90K)  and the job was easy and went smooth.  I was concerned that the
bolts would be seized but there was no issue!
While I had the coolant drained I figured it was a good idea to change the
thermostat too. Here is where I encountered an issue...the two bolts are
seized!!!  Rather that risk snapping the bolts, I stopped and decided to tackle
the job after more preparation,
Most like the bolts will sheer off and I will have to tap new bolts.  Does
anyone know the Genuine Mercedes Part Number, bolt size and a source?
Any other suggestions before I proceed would be appreciated!!!
Thanks,Bob

Why does adblue need to be heated? As I recall it is not particularly viscous
but maybe it will freeze? But in that case the heater would have to stay on
when it’s cold.

Where is the offending unit and how hard is it to replace?

[MBZ] Adblue heater element

2021-09-16 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
The dealer ran a diagnostic on a check engine alert in my 2014 GLK 250 and
came up with "replace Adblue heater element". Big $$s to fix and probably
essential before the weather turns cold. Anyone BTDT?

Re: [MBZ] I would further assert that the CL600 is indeed rarer than the CL55 AMG worldwide

2021-09-16 Thread Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes
I am appreciating the 1988 560 fuel injection system more and more. Just
have to get used to the fumes at cold idle and appreciate that it is never
going to push the limits of hp per liter. Much better than the 1994 e420 in
the dependability dept, though the m119 is a great motor in other forms.

There is a v12 w140 coupe for sale here for about 4k if anyone wants it.
175k miles but the car literally looks new and has been well maintained as
my mechanic is friends with the guy. He is just too old to drive any more.

Freightliner was one of the brands that Daimler-Chrysler owned wasn't it? So
some of their trucks had MB diesels, inclduing the Freightliner-badged
Sprinters but also heavier trucks. Never heard of it in school buses, not that
I pay much attention.

Kind of high miles but a rust-free W123 is probably getting harder to find,
might be worth $3K for someone who wanted it.

Again, not MY ability to refuel. Just that enough people would be able to
refuel,
probably by violence and theft, to help spread the fall of civilization. With
EV
the rot is a day's travel from home, and then it's on foot. With ICE, the rot
is a
month's travel from home before it's on foot. Which damages more of the
somewhat self-sufficient rural community?

My _personal_ survival vehicle would be my trusty '97 Dodge 4wd diesel pickup.
100% mechanical if you lash up the P7100's fuel cutoff solenoid, and you can
push/tow-start it if need be. (Steep hill recommended!) But I am not a
prepper, in any real sense, so I don't have all that other stuff. With any
advance
notice, my first response would be, while civilization still held, to load up
valuables and supplies in said truck/camper, with trailer, and move family and
self to the old family farm. Then help the locals blow bridges and such, in
fine Lucifer's Hammer tradition. Trade my sentry, and engineering, services
such as they are for food, hope they'd let me stay. Alive.

Surprising. When I was a kid we had "Easter Vacation" in the spring but some
atheist loudmouths felt that was untenable and we've had "Spring Break" now for
decades.

Ok let me know how much and where to send it. Not like I will ever use it
here, but I have already had the car for 20 years so it may well be around
for another 20. It takes the kids and dog to school and violin and the park
and that's about it. Gas pedal fell off the floor the other day so need to
weld in a floor pan patch I guess. The water from the AC drain and snow
used to collect in the heel well and it rusted through. I figure one of the
boys can take it to college somewhere. Still only about 207k I think.

Good Yom Kippur to any of you observing it. Schools are shut down here
today - even the Public and Catholic ones.

2021-09-16 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
The first winter I commuted with my '83 240D we had a run of 0F daytime highs.
I would go out and start the car at lunch and run it around a little to keep
heat in the engine so it would start after work. That was with M1 0w40 in it.
With 15w40 conventional I couldn't get it to start reliably below zero without
the block heater.

Re: [MBZ] I would further assert that the CL600 is indeed rarer than the CL55 AMG worldwide

2021-09-16 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Price point is set by assessing $10,000 for the "Rare", and $2,000 for the
car, it seems.
If I bought it, I would need to buy 12 sets of coil packs to store with the
car in a sealed climate controlled room [mouse proof of course] where I let
it "age to perfection" for a future sale at Pebble Beach...
By the time that happens, coil packs will no longer be available, and
having 12 sets [tested and certified] would make the future sale possible.
Doing that, would the car ever make the $1,000,000,000 sale price or above,
in 20 years?

Mine was in a garage, but I didn’t have the heat on (in the garage) during the
week. The garage was insulated, but I only ran the heat when I was working in
it.

This was on a 1979 300TD, so it took FOREVER to heat up in Wisconsin winters.
Having a block heater not only made it start better, as you described, but I
would have cabin heat almost instantaneously and throughout my 30 mile highway
commute to work. Because there was minimal traffic on the highway I was able to
run at speed (65 mph) after a few miles of spooling up, but when the ambient
was 20F or below the engine struggled to maintain operating temperature.

Yeah, if you’re getting zapped when you touch ground and the car with the
heater plugged in, the heater is shorted to ground somewhere. Also why when I
had a timer and cord for a heater in my garage in WI it was on a GFCI
receptacle.

[MBZ] I would further assert that the CL600 is indeed rarer than the CL55 AMG worldwide

2021-09-16 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
But it appears to be getting no love at this price point, as it has been
listed previously.  Black on light gray not the most desirable color
combination, and the M137 engine is problematic

The park job, dinged wheels and crunches sorta explain the driving
abilities.  No interior pics

$3k as it sits, probably be a decent ride
