Re: [MBZ] Okie shop

2021-10-14 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
It looks like most of what is pictured is 48" deep uprights. I choose to go
for 32 inch deep rack because 4' deep shelves are too deep to easily get
access to whatever is pushed to the back. Plus, I didn't want to give up 4
ft of the perimeter of the building. Also, narrower racks are not as
popular with warehouses which usually use both sides in long pallet rack
runs, so it's cheaper..
Keep looking, the right deal will come. With the present economy, there are
a lot of stores closing, so should be a bunch of "slightly used"
pallet rack on the market in near future.
You decide what will best work for you.

2021-10-14 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
I almost always work by myself, so moving a dead car onto a rack, or around
the shop is a pain.
That's why my rule is make it easy, straight in, straight out, and use your
concrete drill to drive a thread insert to mount a pull point for a
electric winch then let your finger pull in the car.. you'll feel a lot
more like working on it when your back doesn't hurt from horsing it into
position to lift.
Cheat when you can. ;))

2021-10-14 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
It is older heavy duty rack, not bent [do NOT buy bent rack, it will hurt
you] the paint is crappy, so it's not pretty, but it's solid. I got the
whole batch for $350. Later went back and bought more cross beams [to make
more shelves.. another $250. So, all in $600.
You need a helper to set up the racking.. don't try 12 ft uprights by
yourself..

Re: [MBZ] Okie shop

2021-10-14 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
There are 2 other overhead doors, but the 2 smaller ones are right
across from each other at the back as seen in the photos. Neither of
those would work very well for straight in.

I have been somewhat keeping an eye out for pallet racks, but need to
step up the search.  Don't need a fork lift as the tractor will lift as
high as I would want to go.

 https://photos.app.goo.gl/eUhuBNjqq8DtCp3L8 this one is B&W,
I know
it's hard to believe I could make an even more janky cable,
it's a

running them into 2 pins and then combining R,G and B and
running
those to one pin. The sync signals were easy by comparison.
Anyway, this one actually works for sure:

 Disappointingly I can't find a PS2 mouse anywhere in my house. I
bought a PS2 to Atari mouse adapter as I was sure I had a mouse

office,
I'll snag one the next time I'm there...
So now that I'm sure the thing works I went online and ordered a
"proper" adapter that does both color and mono. Now I need
either a
scan converter or a monitor than can handle 15khz...

Got top left wisdom tooth yanked today. Wasn't bothering me, but I had the
lower one out a few years ago and the top one was slowly falling out because
there was nothing below it.

After the extraction the dentist said the root was infected so good thing it
was done.

The crown/cap expense on top of the implants he ballparked at $1,000. Going
back in two weeks for a checkup on today's extraction and further deliberations
on the implant proposal.

Every time I have tried to sell small items on CL or eBay it has ended up being
more work and hassle than was anywhere close to being worth the time for the
money.

If you have stuff you haven't touched in 5 - 10 years (some would say less),
unless it is some kind of family heirloom/keepsake, get rid of it.

I like it. Good option for GNW where it has been snowing all day. Head liner
is probably less to make good than soft top. Carpet and leather are NLA, but a
good upholstery shop can fab close enough. The asking price is on the VERY
high side if there are issues. I would expect fully sorted Djet, new
injectors, all new rubber bits in drive line and seals. Absolutely no rust at
all anywhere. Suspension updated in the past five years with new tires.

2021-10-14 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
The hardest part is figuring out what to do with all the crap. I have a couple
of additional shelving units to put it but I don’t think even that will be
enough.

I think putting it straight in the door would be easier to get a non opp car on
it and would probably net more room to work around it, but I want to also
maximize area to store cars indoors. When I say store cars I mean running cars
that I can easily pull in and out when I need the space for work.

Having owned that vintage SL, there are too few photos to be able to give a yea

I’m going to have to get it up on the lift when I get the lift done. It was
shifting fine when parked but I think the linkage or something has frozen up
from sitting.

Other potential issues too. I know a fellow who had a gas version that
looked like that. Not certain of the year.
His car developed problems with the ABS brake system and parts for it
were almost unobtainable. I think they finally found used parts and
patched it up so that he could sell it.

You might remember the Atari ST I got the other day:

These use a really weird DIN 13 connector and have 3 kind of weird
video modes. Not knowing for sure if the computer would work I
didn't want to spend $30 for a "real" video converter when I could
spend $5 for a pair of DIN 13 connectors and burn myself soldering
them on to a VGA cable.
 https://photos.app.goo.gl/rx4FWRvE6t5r5YTR6Careful, don't get too
 close, the jankiness rubs off.
That's actually only the first one, it's a color cable (it carries
color information) and it *probably* works but I don't seem to have
a monitor capable of a 15khz sync rate.
 https://photos.app.goo.gl/eUhuBNjqq8DtCp3L8 this one is B&W, I know
it's hard to believe I could make an even more janky cable, it's a
gift. It was hard combining all 3 grounds from the VGA side and
running them into 2 pins and then combining R,G and B and running
those to one pin. The sync signals were easy by comparison.
Anyway, this one actually works for sure:

 Disappointingly I can't find a PS2 mouse anywhere in my house. I
bought a PS2 to Atari mouse adapter as I was sure I had a mouse
here somewhere. Fortunately I'm sure there are some at the office,
I'll snag one the next time I'm there...
So now that I'm sure the thing works I went online and ordered a
"proper" adapter that does both color and mono. Now I need either a
scan converter or a monitor than can handle 15khz...
