Yeah, we figured that out after a 4+ hour trip around the TriState alone from
WI to Indiana on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, 1988. It was a parking lot,
I remember that trip vividly to this day. On the return I went up the Skyway
and through Chicago and was amazed at the time it cut off
I almost always took the Dan Ryan/I-94/I-65 route back to Indiana. The
Skyway/I-90 tolls are expensive but sometimes worth it as it does save time.

In my torpedo heated I run diesel and mix a little gas in it and it works fine.
Supposedly you can run them on full diesel but I did that one and it fouled up
the plug in it. At least that is what happened with mine which is an older one.

I've heard of people running E85 and diesel 50/50 in torpedo heaters
when they didn't want to pay for kerosene. I'd consider that a low risk
application for black diesel. It doesn't sound like you have enough to
be worth the effort to clean it unless you already have a fuel polishing
setup.
