Well, I received another job offer today. I started talking to this one before
the one that I accepted last week. It’s basically going to end up being around
$3k less a year than the first offer, except they cover 100% of the insurance
for employee and most of it for family. The first company wa

I bought a $20 recip saw years ago as my old Sears (rebranded Milwaukee)
stripped a gear. I expected it to be crap and would last for a bit. I have beat
on the thing unmercifully and with some minimal repairs it has continued to
perform well.

W114 and W108. Horrible, nasty job. The only positive thing is that as these
are older cars, the level of complexity in the dash is extremely low, meaning
there’s very little stuff in there to goof up while you’re doing

Do you have a neighbor who owns a tractor with a front loader? If you do,
now is a good time to make him your "new best friend" and lift the engine
off the trailer, move it to a nice paved surface and set it on cribbing
that will let you work on it now, and get an engine hoist attached to it
later.
That little detail ought to knock off a couple Gs from the asking price.

I have a cheap HF grinder. It works, I use it for grinding. But it has
zero power compared to my much more expensive DeWalt, which
I use for the wire wheel.

Mine has a 500, not sure what is in that one. When I bought it years
ago this old guy in Houston, known for rebuilding Cad engines, had
redone it, ran great. Of course it had no power but torque was mad.

Consider an el-stupido move like catching a hose on the bumper of a car you're
backing out.
You don't want your entire air system to go out the door too, dragging your
compressor on
its side out aft
I see one valve cover is off in one of the pictures by the powers of
magic deduction I surmise it dropped a valve, or ingested something and was
parked. That engine is, I believe, the 454 cubic inch. Not a cheap
overhaul. In today's world, expect $3 to $5K low side estimate, with full
rebuild p

I would say that the flexible hose is very easy to install. I replaced the
PVC because it is rated for water pressure, not compressed air and it was
not routed where I wanted it.
I have a shutoff valve right at the compressor and shut it off when I don't
