When you said "works as it should" I assumed you meant that literally. If there 
is air in the lines you need to bleed and get rid of it? Is that the system 
where you have to back-bleed by connecting the brake bleed nipple to the clutch 
slave bleed nipple and pump the brakes? If so be sure to bleed the brake until 
clear fluid is running out, so you don't pump dirty fluid through the clutch 
and back to the brake reservoir.

Or find some other means to do a pressure bleed from the clutch slave bleed 
nipple. I think some people use a clean hand pump oil can for this?

Both of your observations match mine. I do recall being very impressed with
the book, then disappointed with his following works. The '84 movie was
poor. This one certainly needs a middle and end, but I also thought I needed
to watch it again. Why don't we have any great contemporary scifi like we
used to have?

I once met Ray Bradbury. I told him he was one of my favorite authors. He
said I had very good taste.

The new Dune is just as long as the '84 version but ends about a third of
the way through the story.  It looks like the first episode of a trilogy or
mini-series but I see nothing online about follow-on episodes.

I found the book confusing when I first read it back in the '60s but the
book has several appendices that explain things.  Several times I stopped
reading the main story to read the relevant appendix.  I think Dune could be
a good series (more than 3 episodes) but it is (IMO) foolhardy to try to
tell the whole story in a movie.

There were several other sequel and prequel books based on Dune.  Some
better than others.  The prequels explained how the Dune-era "world order"
came to be.

shop for years. I couldn’t get it to go into any gear but reverse and only when 
engine was off. Anyway today I fired it up and worked the shifter around a bit 
and it loosened up and could shift into all gears with the engine off. Would 
not go into gear with the engine running. Pumped the clutch a bunch of times 
and it works as it should. Shifter is still a little tight but at least I can 
move it around.

You should buy that Maybach, he’s selling it cheap. The old 280SE all sorted 
might not be a bad price either at $12k if you had the money and interest. I 
think he said he paid like $9k for it?

Never mind. I remember the story now. I would probably pull the engine, pull 
the pan, pull the main caps, pull the rod caps, inspect all journals, replace 
the bearings provided the journals were okay, reassemble with new bearings and 
plastigage everything. If it's in spec, you are golden.

Is there anything else that can be damaged by lack of oil? Timing chain 
tensioner and guides, etc? This could end up being a big project.

The old five cylinder diesels had hardened cranks. I assume that newer ones do 
also.

You won't know for sure, until it is taken apart and inspected. I would want to 
know why that rod bearing got starved of oil. The rod may be out of round now 
too. If it is a forever car, I'd pull the engine and rebuild it properly. If it 
is going to be sold, I pull the pan, replace all the bad rod bearing (s) and 
see if it's still noisy.

Kaleb,

If that’s your crankshaft the rods are not your biggest concern. The main 
bearing races are trashed and need to be inspected and repaired/remachined (if 
possible).
