For your future safety, and ease of maintenance at some point in the future, if you hardwire it in, install a disconnect box at the connection. Then, if you need to do work on that lift, pull the disconnect, so it is absolutely safe. Required by code for pool pumps, AC units, etc.. Not very expensive. [MBZ] A sad story
I took my truck in for its annual rust proofing treatment this morning. The shop that does it is a small independent who does a lot of work on VW, Volvo, Mercedes etc. Just before I left, I overheard one of the fellows at the counter talking to a customer on the phone about a car they had in the shop. It was a 2000 Mercedes S500 that someone dropped off to get a safety done so that they could license it. The owner bought it in the USA and brought it to Canada. The fellow at the shop told him they were unable to do a safety on it because it was so rusted that they could not put it on the hoist. He said all of the jacking points were totally rusted out and that the rockers and the door bottoms were full of expanded foam. [MBZ] Lift update
Only thing left is to connect the wiring, fill the hydraulic tank, bleed the system, and adjust the cables. When I wire it up I am also I stalling a 20 amp outlet at the control box to plug in the other lift. It has one of those round plugs in it and i am still debating on installing the outlet or just remove the plug and hardwire it in. This might be what I do but still deciding on that. Likely there is no significant current available at those voltages. Your meter has many megohms of input resistance, and doesn't put any load on anything. That's a design goal! You can measure voltages just by grabbing the meter probes with your hands. Those voltages aren't enough to penetrate skin, so you are probably safe. But, like gun safety, you should _never_ be betting your life on any single measure. I like to work _as if_ the wires are 'hot', even though I've taken measures to ensure they are not. Did you put the MAIN breaker to OFF? or are you leaving the MAIN on and trying to only work a 220 leg? Put the MAIN breaker to OFF, and retry for voltage.. you should have ZERO electric on the system.
