[MBZ] 2002 C320 Wagon - 135k miles - $2,500

2022-01-10 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Do you suppose this just needs a new fan motor? Bad bearings causing overload
and blowing fuses?

Boring colors but looks fairly nice otherwise and has a tow hitch.

That’s a good question. My guess is that since it was bought in the US, it gets
ordered with US specs. They probably didn’t ask where its ultimate destination

What was it that caused Craig to have surgery on his neck?

years but I have very limited range of motion on my neck.  Can not

like a car on lift.  Also if drinking a can of soda or something like
that, can't tilt head back far enough to get the last bit out while
standing.  If I sit and can lean back I can. Also, when leaned over a
car working on something for a little bit of time, takes me a few
minute so be able to stand back upright.

Started off with ortho doctor who did xrays.  I have arthritis and I
guess bone spurs, some of which have grown to the point of connected
vertebrae in 2 spots and trying to do it in a 3rd.  Have some
narrowing in the spinal canal in some spots which could be leading to
some pinched nerves.  This was discovered after I had a MRI.  I was
then referred to spinal expert.  At first glance he says it appears I
am going to need surgery.  I am not really having any other symptoms I
have noticed except for some possible weakness in a couple of fingers
that might be part of this.  Given I have this blood clotting deal and
have to be on warfarin, there is really nothing he wants to do unless
symptoms become worse.  In other words, I guess I just have to live
with stiff sore hurting neck.

This then got me to thinking, I wonder if this is something a
chiropractor could help with?  Never been to one or know much about it.

That sounds familiar.

Spousal unit wanted to come out to Flagstaff to see if an extended stay would
help her arthritis due to previous experiences/stays.

Three-four days in she’s doing great, then she decides rather that turn up the
thermostat she’s going to haul a load of wood in for the wood stove. And of
course the result was a day or two of recovery. Duh!

I had a very stern talking-to with her about it, so that’s that, but it’s much
the same. “I know I shouldn’t/should do something to recover, but this is more
important so I’ll do it and just recover on the backside.”

Nope. Not how it works.

So how is it "below KBB value" then?

There must be people paying that kind of money for that kind of car.

Going with slightly higher wattage lamps in the W123 did make a noticeable
difference, and as long as you didn’t max them out they wouldn’t melt anything.

Re: [MBZ] Went to the neck doctor

2022-01-10 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
As we age that healing takes longer and longer.Angie over-did it at the gym
back in November and her sciatic nerve either got pinched or rubbed on. It's
been 2 months of discomfort and pain.
Her problem is that she won't take a solid week off to let it heal. She'll take
a day off, feel a little better and then try to do a full day's work. I get it,
she's a sole proprietor so if she's not working she's not making any money but
she's getting to where she needs 2 days off to put in one day so she'll take
one day off and work a half day...
We had kind of a blowout about it this morning, she's getting worried about
money but can't break out of her cycle. I told her that if she wants to get
serious about letting herself heal I'll help her with the money but if she
wants to persist with her current tactic she might as well just close the
business. I'm not going to pay for her to follow a road we know leads to
failure.
It's tough love but sometimes she needs these ultimatums to get her to do what
she already knows she needs to do.

I agree. W123 (and W116) dash lights at full brightness, with all bulbs

Re: [MBZ] Went to the neck doctor

2022-01-10 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
Shoulders benefit from active therapy - even after rotator cuff surgery
(which I had on each shoulder 11 years apart). The pain is quite powerful
but the results are worth it. I've experienced no discomfort in either
shoulder since completing surgery and followup PT.

Re: [MBZ] 87 300D tach & cluster lights

I don't think I've ever driven a 124 at night but my 201s had pretty good dash
lighting stock. 123 dash lights stink, the LEDs were a real upgrade.

I strained my rotator cuff a couple years ago. Mentioned it to my
chiropractor, he said "Oh yeah, I can help with that." I'll be danged but he
was right. He made an adjustment and gave me a stretch for it and about 2 weeks

The strain I had sure hurt, a tear must be miserable.

Shoulders are different than necks AFAIK.

I had a similar issue with my left shoulder that my PA said was an inflammation
of the “capsule” around the joint. After an injection and round of oral
steroids it was a lot better, and in less than maybe six months or so I’ve
regained mobility that I had lost.

That’s one of my complaints when it comes to the “LED conversions” for older
vehicles. I pay close attention to the color temperature of the LEDs, as higher
= whiter/bluer.

2022-01-10 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
True, though when I got my Element I think every bulb but maybe one was burned
out. The LEDs were OK, my main issues were that even though I ordered "white"
LEDS, the light had a bluish cast which I didn't care for. Also the light did
not seem to spread very well, so the instruments were unevenly illuminated with
brighter and dimmer areas.

The lighting was definitely usable and adequate, but I wasn't 100% satisfied.

Might also ask if physical therapy could help, though I would assume they would
have referred you if it could.

I have a sore left shoulder that has *slowly* improved over the last two years
through range of motion and strength exercises. It still isn't as good as the
right side, but it is better than it was, though at times it seemed to get
worse for a while depending on the intensity of the exercise.

They can, Mitch has reported some pretty good numbers with his gasser Cruze.
The thing is that as efficiency rises people say "Oh good, now I can have a big
SUV that gets "good" mileage." and squander all the efficiency on upsizing. You
see this in houses too, as building practices get more efficient people just
build bigger houses. The result is the same amount of energy used but more
space consumed...

Re: [MBZ] 87 300D tach & cluster lights

2022-01-10 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I don't know about 124 cars but I put LEDs into my 240Ds and the upgrade was
fantastic. The annoying thing was that the bulbs I got were polarized so they
had to go in the right way but neither the bulbs nor the fixture were marked so
I had to put them in, reinstall the dash pod and see if it worked, then pull it
back out and correct them.
I *think* I got the ones I used on eBay but I'm not sure, it's been a long
time, I'm sure there are better options now.

ground, with no difference.  I know the EDS is bad.   I know the tach
signal goes through the EDS, then to the tach, so it is possible the EDS
is causing the problem.   On the 123/OM617, the fault is usually the
ground, but this seems to be something different.  Anyone got
suggestions what to look for or how to cure this?

Also most of the dash light bubs are burned out.  Is there a LED
solution to better the OE type light bubs?

Re: [MBZ] Rising fuel prices

2022-01-10 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
 Mine is a 2015 with the common rail 2.0. Angie's Golf is a 2005 with the 1.9L
"Pump Deuce" engine. Her car regularly gets in the high 40s but rarely breaks
50.
My old '98 Jetta with the old 1.9L engine was generally over 50mpg but that was
a light little rattle trap of a car. I loved it...

Re: [MBZ] 87 300D tach & cluster lights

2022-01-10 Thread Peter Frederick via Mercedes
Check the connector on the back of the engine for the crank position sensor
(which can also be bad).

Idle will be erratic if that sensor or the connector is bad.
