I suppose one reason it does not run might be that the fuel line is not connected to the carburetor, but then again that might just be where the owner gave up after working on it a bit. [MBZ] Gutting catalysts
I have the SL600 in the garage working on various things. I believe the catalysts are shot. I don't want to replace with new, or cut them out and put in a "test pipe," I would just as soon gut them. Has anyone done this? Bad idea? The only issue (aside from emissions which is not applicable here, and the car would not pass anyway if it was required) is the O2 sensors needing to be fooled, there are probably work-arounds to that aspect. From what I read the car might actually run a bit better, maybe a bit louder, but otherwise would not have any particular problems. Similar to what you've already got, I think that's a K series Kohler engine, the difference being that it's belt drive instead of the shaft drive on a Cub Cadet. Take a squirt bottle of 2 stroke gas and a boost pack, shoot a little juice into the carb, if it fires it's worth that price. I had a K181 rebuilt last year, the fellow charged me $625 which I thought was a decent deal. It had gotten pretty tired, was hard to start and blew a lot of smoke. Don't know much about the economics of it, but the name Celadon is familiar. I think they were based in Indianapolis, or had a large hub there. They were constantly advertising for drivers a few years ago. I didn't know they had closed, but that would explain why those ads disappeared. On some of the tech blogs I read, people are convinced that self-driving trucks are just around the corner, and will decimate the market for truck drivers. I think it's many years away personally, but I'm sure the trucking companies are champing at the bit for it. The price for premium gas, which his car requires, was $9.799. He wrote on Instagram that he is "still blown away by these nearly $10 [per] gallon insane gas prices." "I've been going out of my way to find Costco gas stations along the route because the gas prices have been so insane," Shupe told FOX Business. He said braving the lines at Costco has saved him $10 or $20 a tank. The average price of gas in California is currently $6.17 per gallon for premium and $5.82 for regular, according to AAA.
