2022-07-06 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
https://www.facebook.com/groups/W123NA/permalink/5251843014882395/

I realize some may find this distasteful, but I feel compelled to post anyway.

Lots of new people are coming into W123 circles, and histories of certain
products - but also certain people doing business in our world - get lost very
easily on Facebook. Spencer Lerman of Lerms Customs was removed from this
group earlier this year after repeated bad transactions with members spanning
over 6 months time. Myself and several of my peers had consistently given him
help and information in the interest of seeing him grow and succeed, but when
the sh!& hit the fan he was not sympathetic whatsoever to our decision and
cleared a wide path with his words. Since then, he's started a new
venture: BenzPartz. Today I see him canvassing with a post about a big road
trip, offering "repairs along the way" and having access to "any part needed".
To anyone considering doing business with him, just know that these claims
are... optimistic, at best, and there's a history of having a sub-par knowledge
of differences in parts and trying to function "above his pay grade" when it
comes to diagnosis and repair on the cars. He made a habit of going out on
limbs like this when he was on our group, and how he's going forward on social
media doesn't indicate his tune has changed.

To clarify: I'm not trying to limit any competition that may come from Spencer.
If he gets his game together enough to really compete with me, or even begins
overshadowing me - I'll be losing fair and square, and I try to always be ready
to accept a time when that can happen. My interest is in keeping everything
"out in the daylight" if you will, and preventing any horror stories from the
convergence of a W123 owner and a business-person whose foremost concern isn't
doing right by the customer.

I keep a handful of the door rivets on hand for that reason. They’re pretty
much universal and you always need a couple when you pull door panels off.

I think I got a rebuild kit or something of the sort of the last ML that needed
a rear window regulator. Still had to remove it, so you need the rivets, but it
wasn’t a big deal to do. I will say ‘ve got one of the heavy duty riven guns
from Harbor Fright and it’s much easier to do with it, mainly because those
rivets take a boatload of energy to pop.

Yeah not a big deal to deal with those things, even if it is a hose or
something.  That would be a decent deal for a beater ML and it actually
doesn't look half bad.  Show up with 12 benjies and drive it off.

I've got to replace a rear regulator in mine, have had it for ages but
just haven't done it.  Had to buy the rivet gun and rivets too and I

[MBZ] YAY ME!!! $900 07E350 semi-success

2022-07-06 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I cleared the 722.9 trans fault code (Y3/8y5 B1 brake control solenoid)
and took the car for a spin.  At first it was still in limp mode, I
drove it down the road a bit then parked and fooled around with the
scanner and looking at other codes and whatever, shut the car off and
restarted it and it shifted and drove fine.  YAY ME!!!  I'm sure the
solenoid needs to be replaced so I will do that and do fluid/filter too
which I am sure it needs.  So that says that the conductor plate is
likely not bad and it is just that one solenoid.  One hopes anyway...
that would be an easy cheap fix other than the fluid/filter which is
like unicorn piss or something. Anyway... the guy told me that it would
work fine for awhile after clearing the code then it would go into limp
mode again so this tracks that, so he was honest about it.

It also has an intake flap code I will need to sort out, could be simple
or not so simple (but not too difficult just fiddly). But the car was
running OK and the AC BLOWS ICE COLD

Aside from the few things in the interior the car is quite nice, body in
great shape and looks really good.  I wish these seats would hold up
better but seems to be a standard thing that the driver seat bottoms
wear out.  I should see if I can find replacements.
