I found a whole series of videos by a guy who basically rebuilt everything on and around the engine so I’m going to dig into those things. Dan has provided some good insights and linked me to some good forum posts on the issues. I ordered a new throttle cable which is kinda key as the one on it now is broken at the engine end. The car runs poorly, just won’t idle and dies. So at least the engine itself is not buggered, it’s wiring, intake hoses, and the ETA. Maybe $1k worth of parts and ETA rebuild. So it will be interesting to nip away at it. I have a co-worker who has a 2012 Altima. He bought is as the second owner, and got an extended warranty on it. Maintains it by the book because he's not a car guy but understands the importance of maintenance. They just replaced the CVT in the car a couple weeks ago under warranty. You need to CHANGE the FLUID. Nissan will tell you it will last 10 years and they sort of brush it off in the owner's manual. Change it every 30K miles and use the correct Nissan CVT fluid. These two things alone, combined with the fact that the car has been sitting can easily cause the isle issue. More likely than not, the ETA needs to be rebuilt.
