Dimitri, Dwight. FWIW. If the lever is down the rack is in the shutoff position and will not supply fuel at all. The vacuum shut-off device could be stuck, maybe? (I have a spare). The pump side plate, when removed, will let you access the rack. I have an OM602 injection pump with 90k mi. that you may have. Confused yet? Fred p.s. [MBZ] 300D 2.5 Turbo no start
The 1990 300D 2.5 Turbo has been sitting for 5 days and now it won’t start. It glows just fine so I think it’s a fuel issue. The injector pump shut off lever is in the depressed position. That doesn’t seem right. I can pull it up but it just flops back down. If I hold it up while someone else cranks it still won’t start. After many cranking attempts it almost started a few times but I was afraid to drain the battery or kill the starter so I stopped. Not sure what’s going on. It actually did this to me a couple of months ago after the car sat for a month while I sorted the relay ground issue but it eventually did start. So it seems like when the car sits it develops this problem. Maybe it’s an air leak at the injection pump? Wheels appear to be the best part of the car, lot of rattiness. Car runs and drives great with its in-line straight 6! Until the trans warms up, then starts to slip or not want to shift. I’ve spoken with mechanics and done research on my own and the problem seems to be an internal transmission oil pump seal. I’ve had the car as a daily for 5 years but have finally decided to let her go. I’ve kept her up very well being close to the star motor family, them being who I started my career with, (Paint and body) but we all must move on! Few small problems as with any older car but trans and a recent power steering pump leak are the worst. Solid motor, solid body, not to mention the wheels alone are worth the asking price. This car will need some tlc but it turns heads anywhere you go! Be prepared for offers daily once it’s back on the road.
