In my experience batteries go from "works fine" to "won't hold a charge/start 
the car" very quickly without much warning. That's mostly with conventional 
batteries though, I don't have much experience with AGM batteries.

I have systematically transitioned to Intersates from Costco when any battery 
in any of my vehicles crap out.  Very good product and Costco is very easy to 
deal with.

It still has the original battery with the date stamped on it from the
factory. It's now 9 years old and working fine, except that Eco start works
only sporadically and the rear hatch doesn't open fully in the morning
after the car has been sitting overnight.

Yes. Interstate manufactured in Deutschland. If it has a problem, walk in, set 
it down, say it’s dead, and in 5min you’re out with a new one. Did that a 
couple weeks ago.
