That spring that I circled in the pic earlier, I can push down on 
whatever it's pulling up against, but nothing changes. I'm thinking the 
problem is with the PLIL and nothing short of going under the car to 
unlock the transmission is going to get it rolling.


I've got the left side jacked up and dirt shoveled under the tires.
I'm about ready to do the same to the right side, blow up the tires 
(left rear has a bead leak, left front holds, haven't touched the right 
yet) and drag it out of there, probably with one tire spinning the wrong 
way while the other tires roll.

The solenoid is on the right side near the bottom of the shifter assembly as I 
recall. I don’t recall being able to get to it from in the car, but maybe you 
can. I just checked mine out when I knew it wasn’t working to see what was 
involved and to confirm that it was, in fact, dead.

It's cranking now, but no fire and no shift.
The fact that I don't hear a fuel pump probably has something to do with 
the no fire.

Just started cranking after I left the battery hooked up for a while.

I think the 2000+ 210s have the +/- sideways shifter not the 1234 
shifter.
The +/- in my ML has the slot for the override without taking anything 
apart.

to manually move it, since it doesn’t have a which release deal like later cars 
but you can, as far as I recall. Seemed like it was buried toward the bottom of 
one side or the other.

That was the link I was fruitlessly looking for yesterday.

The PLIL is near the bottom left rear of the trans.

to crawl under in the mud. (the tires sunk into the mud and I'm trying

and pry the leaver back that locks it.

pen, as I recall.

The W210 shifter uses a lockout solenoid to than prevent shifting out of park.
