VW distributed porsche in Canada for years too, then they were taken over by
porsche in the US. The day they did, I saw many parts prices drop my
half!! VW and Porsche have had several joint projects over the years and
share parts at times too. Did a few things with mercedes too. :-)

I still want to know what you guys are doing to break your keys?? ha ha
ha. After reading the tread, I had to go and have a really good look at all
the keys, which are original. I still can't figure out what you guys are
doing. Mercedes should hire all you guys for quiality control. lol.

I think the 5 speed box in the Boxster is also VW, and the guts of the auto
box in the 928 is S Class. Porsche also did the final assemble of the W124
E500 I think? I'm sure there's lots of other stuff too.

We used to laugh at certain parts prices here in USA. For instance, a set
928 was a transaxle with a torque tube, so I think the case is different,
but all the internals are the same though.

Hey everyone,
Thinking of going to look at a '92 S Class with 305.000 kms on it. Any
issues or things to watch for? Think this was just before the wiring
problems? Any tips or hints appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Robb,
I'm pretty new to the list, and bought a '88 300E about 6 months ago. It
passed but was burning oil at the time. Why your's didn't pass could be any
one of many reasons. I've always found, just before a test, clean plugs
gapped right, clean oil, and make sure the car is good and hot

Rather than messing with key tops that break, wonder if you can't just find
a copy of a bland key with a solid molded top? Found some great blanks for
my porsche for under $10 each, as good as what came from the factory. Just
at one of those little corner key places.

I think it's fair for a car is the shape described. I'd pay it. Only
thing, I keep hearing all these stories about how long lived diesels are and
then see many with engine rebuilds at less than 400,000 kms. Nothing wrong
with a rebuild engine, but makes me question the premium often asked for

Ah, so you're saying that Mercedes is like every other carmaker.
It takes them 11 years of production to work all the bugs out.
Then they immediately discontinue the model.

My vote goes for a 5.0L V8 W140. 560 SEL would be a close second, third, a
W124 wagon with a 3.2L inline 6. Ok, do you want to hear my top 10 list?
