Now that I'm putting the 300SDL back on the road, I would not mind finding a
nice, cheap 420SEL just for the interior.

I answered from my PDA earlier but it has not filtered through Verizon yet.
My Dad owns a 35 foot SUV with a pusher Cummings engine. He gets 12 MPG,
used to get 7 MPG in his 25 foot 454 powered SUV.

My Dad owns a 35 foot motor home with a Cummings pusher engine (mounted
in rear). Last I talked to him about the land yaught, he was getting 12
MPG and he stated that the mileage was much better than the 454 powered
25' motor home he used to own. It got 7 MPG.
I guess everything's relative.

Well, I finally sold my 1959 220S and the new owner picked it up on
Saturday.
Now I'm down to one Mercedes, the 1987 300SDL. I'm going to fix the
leaking IP this weekend or next and will put it back on the road.
Thanks, Tom

Sundial is correct. A local chain is doing the same but instead of using a
lever, you select one of 6 grade buttons on the pump. The grades run 87, 88,
89, 90, 91 93 octane.

White lithium grease has no business in wheel bearings to begin with
because it won't hold up to wheel bearing temperature. The soap base
will liquify and the oil will go away! This is why the bearings were
loose on both sides and you are lucky that a bearing did not sieze up!

Outer races are easy.
Feel around the inside of the hub, where the inside of the race ends
you will find 2 indents.
Use a copper or brass punch hammer to walk the the race out from the
other end.
Then place the new race in the hub, set the old race on top of the new
