In my recent experience, the answer is until (1) fuel is gone, or (2) it
gets dark, or (3) you can't stand the mono valve full open any longer.

This is a good tip from Trampas. If the alternator light doesn't come on
befire you crank the engine, the light is unreliable. In other words, it may
not light when the alternator stops charging. Don't ask how I know.

The clock in my 82 300SD finally quit. From initial inspection, it appears
that the resistor just abobe the crystal is cooked. Can anyone advise how to
proceed? Id the cooked resistor the problem or just a symptom of some other
problem? Does anyone have a schematic? Are these things DYI
My 300SD turbo gets 25 mpg my 300TD NA gets 20. Very repeatable. Mixed

If he needs professional help, he can contact Bill T. at CB Automotive on
Chicago Ave in Ft Walton Beach or Gene Hunter AKA Dr. Benz. Also in Ft Walton
Beach. Bill fixed my lock cylinder failure about 10 years ago but it cost
several hunderd $.
There is also an active MBCA group in that area
On my '79 300 TD (617 non turbo) there is a constant oil film on the front of
the engine and also on the alternator. What is/are the likel;y causes, front
main seal?
Also on this engine, it doesn't die if I pulg the crankcase vent, indicating a
significant amount of blow-by is escaping
When my 300TD did this, I removed the lock cylinder and squirted oil into
the steering lock mechanism (this was in Florida). Replaced lock cylinder
and it's been OK since then.

To hold the assembly to unscrew the bolts holding the hub to the disk, I
temporarily bolt the hub back on the wheel. It's a lot easier to hold the
wheel than the hub or disk. Also, PB Blaster seems to help get those screws
started. I also put a but of blue locktite on them when I reassemble.
Everything ran out, including diesel. You should have seen the line of
garbage trucks, cement trucks, etc waiting at the pump after the tanker
truck arrived!

I have used the dial indicator several times to set the front bearings on my

it move but you can feel it stop as the slack is taken out. I
I am seeking recommendations on a possible purchase.
I have an opportunity to buy a 1989 300 TE. It has about 130K miles with about
25K on the engine since rebuild (new commercial short block and head rebuilt).
Many other critical parts are almost new. Initial inspection and dialog with
