John took the wife and I for a ride in his. Best accelerating thing I've
been in for several decades that didn't have wings. Reminded me of a T-34C
at takeoff power. Scary fast, plus great mpg. It isn't an Olds 442 or a GTO
but those days are long gone.

Oh. So, in other words, YOUR car is even less in my realm of possibility for
ownership than the E300D.

Did you hear me complaining? I have no problem with what I am driving.
Figured out why the speedo on the 300E is off by 5 mph (you are going 5 mph
faster than what the speedo shows, as checked with GPS). The "book" calls
for 195/65/15 and the tires on the car are 195/70/15.

We could perhaps talk if it was blue. But red is a deal-killer for a Debbie
car.

I came really close to buying Gene's boss's E420. Forget the year but it was
the last year of the W124. Black & black, showroom condition (not so much as
a door ding). He wanted $6000 and that would have required a loan and car
payments.
He ended up letting his teen daughter drive it to school and
It is different in Iowa -- we are further east than you are. In Maine, it
would have been a 10 mph difference due to the rotation of the earth.

everywhere!

If you can't see the Benz trident when driving down the road, it is too new

I do. And it is tucked into the garage, Battery Tender keeping things warm,
waiting for spring. I am looking forward to NOT driving a 240D this winter.
