I've never heard anybody refer to the FBI as anything other than the F-B-I,

NASA is different as with SCUBA, RADAR, LASER and that like.

Re: [MBZ] parts sources, again

2013-07-28 Thread Rusty Cullens

I miss selling all the folks on this list as well. I wish things had gone
better for Trent, I continue to offer any advice to him but he won't respond to
me. I have forgiven Gary for accepting 17k in my Amex deposits from web sales
at buyMBparts.biz that went into his buyMBparts.com checking account when we
first split, because my wife insists that I move forward and upward with my new
position at World Pac and get over the past. Well after 37 years of marriage
she knows a lot more than I do, so I am doing as she says. Keep Trent on the
list, he may turn this around, add Gary back, make them both behave. Don't buy
from Trent for me, buy from him for his service, same as Gary. I wish I could
sell everyone through World Pac but it just isn't to be. Good luck to all
finding a parts source, I personally would stick with the smaller guys like
Trent or Gary over the mega parts guys but that is just me. Adios my friends!

Huh??

You want Trent banned for his behavior, but you want Gary to not
stay banned for his behavior?

If one (Gary) can be re-instated because he gets another chance -
why should the other (Trent) not?

Buy from Gary if you want. Buy from Trent if you want. But Gary
had multiple chances to change his behavior - but he didn't. So
whether he is a great parts supplier or not is immaterial to
whether or not he is on this email list.

Last summer I replaced my rear brakes on the 82 240D. I replaced everything,
rotors, pads, calipers, flexible brake hoses and the left steel brake line
leading to proportioning valve. I used reman calipers. I've always had good
luck with these until now.
The left rear caliper pistons seized up. The inboard side was not making
contact with the rotor and thus that side of the rotor was very rusted. The
outboard side was not releasing thereby causing the brakes to heat up like mad.
l replaced the caliper and rotor today. The parts were free as they were under
warrantee. The caliper has a lifetime and the rotor two years. The right sided
brakes looked just fine with minimal pad wear. Now I know that you must replace
brakes in pairs but I didn't as they are only one yr old and as I explained the
right looked fine.
I then took the car for a spin and I now hear a squeal on the right, it is
worst when braking. Could this be related to inequality in braking power? Could
this be caused by replacing only one side?

You hit it right Rick. I talked to Trent's brother tonite. He got shafted for

apologize. I probably should have just shut Bimby down. Hindsight is 20/20.
Once again I apologize for this, I will endorse Gary because he does care for
older Mercedes, but I will not agree that he has my knowledge of the car in
general. My issues with him are over, I have moved on. I miss all my customers

That is one of the things I enjoyed about Rusty's BuyMBParts before he sold
it. The web site still list the old phone number, but it appears to have
 been disconnected.

Might have to try a new place. I did compare the price at the Keenan site
and the muffler part I just ordered from BuyMBParts was 275 compared to 215
from Keenan. I wonder if Trent would match the price?

I called the Sterling, IL poleeces and asked how to file some charges
against this guy. The girl I spoke to said I would have to deal with my
local poleeces. I contacted a Capt in the Sheriff's Office, he put one
of his guys on it. His guy says:

My apologies sir for the delay. We have encountered something
similar in the past and conferred with the Solicitor's Office. The
incident location for which the crime occurred is the location where
the funds were misappropriated. From the information below provided
by Mr. Thomas, the jurisdiction in Sterling, Illinois, should be
investigating the matter.

I know 3 or 4 of us here on this list got screwed by this guy, and there
are others out there too that Jabba has heard from (I ordered a load of
stuff from him today). I am thinking that if the local poleeces do not
want to chase after this guy, we need to get a list of people and
amounts lost (whether our banks/CC companies recover or whatever) as he
is basically robbing us. Note too that it is a federal crime
(interstate wire, etc.) but I doubt if there would be any interest from
the feds on this guy.

If I got that info I would contact the local prosecutor/ police chief,
and whomever else with the collected complaint. That would get their
attention I might think. I pinged my Sheriff contact to see if he had a
chance to call the Sterling IL PD and asked if he could get someone
there as a contact.

If anyone wants to join in, send me a private msg and I will compile a
list. If Jabba can get some others he is in contact with, that would
make several people with the same complaint.

Or if any of you want to call directly:

is in small auxiliary fuse holder immediately in front of (4 or 5 inches,

Rusty had no parts. Neither does Gary or anyone else. All these
businesses are drop ship, often from all the same places. There is no way
for the small guy to stock such a huge number of parts. This is what
worldpac is, a huge importer and distributor of parts. And there are many
other businesses that do the same.

There are exceptions, like AutohausAZ I think... they import some things
themselves, which is why they're so cheap. At least thats how it used to
be, not sure now.

My memory recalls the story of bimby to be that much of the concept
and foundation of online benz parts was not in either Rusty or
Richarde experience. Gary is the innovator, essentially. Rusty
(parts biz) and Richarde (online coding) were the vehicles. Find the
archives in Richarde's basement.

There is nothing about what Gary ever did that should gather a comment
such as off his rocker - that is totally specious and off his
rocker is the fundamentally acceptable manner of the forum in which
the fun was experienced. Banned is by definition a place where abuse
is expected. If a person cannot stand the format - banned is not the
place for them. Abuse at banned is down about 99% which is a
fundamental of its decline. Gary founded banned that way and lived to
that creedo, most did not like that. That is not off his rocker in
the least. Check the archives in richarde's basement.

 and more
viciously crooked till it has reached the point where it is at now. even
though i've had nothing to do with this company for many years now, these
are sad days for me. i feel sort of like a parent whose child has run away
from home and now i see him on the nightly news evolved into a hardened
 criminal

Now that is strong stuff, he does not seem to care about destroying
someone else or their livelihood (including the reputation of Rusty
Cullens). What proof does he have of these viciously crooked things? I
think the only thing he has is his believe that Rusty did the dirty on him,
which we where all supposed to agree with and when some didn't he turned on
us in a heart beat but no I got that wrong, Gary is a good guy and we are
all vicious crooks evolving into hardened criminals.

If Gary is a good man he should have thought a lot harder about what he
writes in public and how he treats people, especially those he has issues
 with.
And I do not follow your logic, we should not have kicked Gary even though
he was happy enough to kick back and now that it is his turn to do some
kicking, he certainly wasted no time putting on the pointy boots.
I see what he wrote on MBworld as a major kicking, perhaps Trent deserves
it but my view is that a few kicks where aimed at Rusty as well, who is
feeling very bad right now but no that's right Gary is the golden child and
 Rusty is the mean one.

Anyway we are all entitled to our view of the world, you reckon he is a
good bloke who got done over, I reckon he has a mean streak that comes out
 now and then to play.
What everyone else thinks is up to them but I do remember we gave him a
fair chance on here to calm down and play nice but that did not happen.

Basically that is what I see, you're welcome to prove me wrong and tell us
exactly what makes Gary such a good man, I don't see it right now but I do
 not have closed mind either.

 Hendrik
who would love to say that Gary is a good bloke but needs more proof of
this and no the ability to organise shipment of parts from A to B does not
 constitute good guy status

 Just a few basics:
   - I think we can all agree that Trent has taken several people's money
 and
not delivered anything. Its been going on long enough for him to try to
make this right. I can't imagine any excuse that would clear this at this
point, as nice as that would be. And I can't imagine anyone here would
disagree with this. I think its safe to say it: hes a crook.
 - I believe Gary is the best in the business. I buy a lot of parts and
I've tried a lot of places. Hes the only one that actually cares about
what he sells and delivers as promised.
 - Gary has had his lively hood destroyed by a messy divorce. While he
acted in a way that offended many, I can understand his actions. Put
 yourself in his shoes.
 - I'm certainly not looking to start a debate about who did what and who
started what, but consider this: Rusty, Gary, and Richard together played
a significant role in creating this community and creating a successful
online parts business. Anyone who knows the three for a long time would
agree: None of them could have accomplished anything without the each
 other.

I find the endless flow of destructive words by many of you against Gary
 to
be sickening. All of you who are guilty of this should be ashamed of
yourself. You continued to kick a man who was already down. You believe
one sided stories that don't completely add up.

Everyone needs to stop and really think about whats going on here. You're
 making a terrible mistake.

And Hendrick: its a shame you're so vocal about something which you hold
little or no stake in. I hope you sleep well tonight, thinking about the
effects of your comments on the livelihood of a good man.

 Completely disgusted,

The RustyQ of 2002 was the best ever. We had Marshall Booth, Richarde, and

Dear lister's,

I am horribly grieved at what is happening. Had I known this, I would have just
closed the business. I am still trying to contact Trent but I too, can only
leave message after message. I have even texted his cell to no avail. I have
no idea what went wrong but it appears to have happened very quickly. If I do
get lucky and get him, I will let everyone know. Please accept my sincere
apologies, I feel like I have let a lot of good people down. Kaleb, if you
indeed interested in taking over, I will be talking to my attorney, please send

I am here, I didn't see the email, sorry. I have tried to talk to Trent about
all the issues that pop up but I too get ignored sometimes. I will continue to
prod him for any and all of ya'll. FYI, life at WorldPac is amazing! In my 2
months on the phones after the initial training, I have added 62 accounts and
sold them quite a bit. Keep in mind to become an account you have to buy a
minimum of 2k a month. The account base they have given me has increased 37
percent over the same 2 months. It looks like I may keep my job! Keep posting

Randy went back to the stealership some years back, probably in the late
90s/early 2000s if I recall correctly. He had some major health issues and
left at some point in the future after that.

He has or had a large supply of NOS parts, which he started liquidating on eBay
some years back out of a warehouse in Goleta, where he is still located today
as far as I know.

I touch base with him from time to time. My needs are minimal enough that it
doesn't make a lot of logistical or financial sense to buy from a supplier in
California.

He's a good guy, very knowledgeable, and knows his customers well. He is
pretty active on the Hitler list, which I find curious, but I have never seen
any reference to his business or selling parts that I know of. It's possible
that some of the list residents there patronize him. I do not know.

I said it before on this list that the Sylvania kit works.
The polishing steps are standard for all of the kits that I tried. The

headlights on Joanne's Altima are beginning to haze again, as I said, after
two years.

The UV protection in the Lexan headlight lens is only on the outer
surface, so you can polish them back up nicely for a while, but
they will get hazy and turn yellow again within a year.

Another reason why glass lenses are better (the other reason is
 that they are cheaper).

All W123 front calipers are the same. The only thing is they used Bendix or
ATE. As long as you change both it doesn't matter. They took different brake
hoses depending on the VIN but it didn't impact the calipers. Are there any
numbers on the caliper or box? Perhaps it was just picked wrong or there is
the chance that the wrong one was put in the right box. What is your
complete VIN?

Always difficult to step into the shoes of someone who knows the
business inside out. Trent will make mistakes but hopefully will grow
into the big shoes left by Rusty.
It will take time and he will do things his way as well which might
not sit well with some of you folks but you will get used to it and
maybe even learn to like it.
I doubt Trent could have done enough research to know it all up front
and likely is finding that he just does not have enough time to do it
 all at this point.

BuyMBParts.com used to be Rusty, but he lost it somehow in the divorce from
Hursty, it got sold, and is now a front for something else.

BuyMBParts.biz is Trent, formerly Rusty.

BuyEuroParts.com is Hursty.

Both websites, AFAIK, are just the online WorldPac catalog, which is not
everything that is available. You are better off calling. Or that's how it
was with Rusty, anyway.

I appreciate the sentiment. I just spent last night holding my father's hand

him in. Oncologist could not get her head out of her rear long enough to think

I had a 1970 250C silver with black leather, with a sun roof. Great looking

The 250C with the M130 and twin Zeniths would pull stumps and blow V8s off the
line, even with the slushbox.

I had a 1970 250C and it was an awesome car. Sadly, like many of its vintage,
it had front rocker rot, but it wasn't advanced. I bought it at an auction for
the City of Orlando. It was abandoned for overdue parking.

After I sorted out the Zeniths it was a badass car.

Interesting threads. I like how the APA/URO rep tries to defend himself,

Again, this comes back to a very dated post I made regarding window seals. I
referenced a great article by the former owner of the House of Ghia who I
met many years ago when I was into VWs and he was aggressively producing
reproduction Ghia parts such as windshield seals. Sadly, Jim passed a few
years ago and his business was sold. The old web site is gone as are many of
 his very insightful articles.

The point being is that rubber parts are especially easy to clone cheaply, as
the amount of carbon that can be added displaces far more expensive
ingredients but does little to affect the look and feel of the part. It also
significantly reduces the integrity of the material, meaning that it will
deteriorate rapidly when put into service.

There is a thread about window seals in which a guy with 40 years experience
says he doesn't notice any difference when installing URO. I thought and what
do they look like after they've been on a car parked outside for 5-10 years,
the
OE seals keep water out for 10-20 years?
Just ordered a Lemforder front flex disc for my car. $202 list, $162 my price
for OEM from my dealer. The Lemforder was $116 from Trent (Lemforder is the
OE supplier.) URO part is $79.

That means the URO part is 30% cheaper than the OE part. How can it be that
much less and still be the same quality?

If Lemforder is OEM, it looks like 50% cheaper than OE and 30% cheaper than OEM.
There's a pic in a peachparts thread of a one year old shredded URO flex disc.
Absolutely the last part on the whole car I'd buy URO, as nobody wants to lose
their drive shaft.

I would like to get one of these for the 140, but am a bit shocked by the
prices. If I could find the rough stock I would make one myself, but I
don't see that happening unless I go digging around for some turning stock
that might be the right size.

Not surprisingly, the fine folks at URO are making them, cheap as always,

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Mercedes actually manufactures their brake rotors. Balo is the closest to
OE there is. Zimmerman are good. ATE is total aftermarket.

I believe that both ATE and Balo are OEM suppliers, correct? Are they
effectively the same for the average user? Any reason one would be a better
 choice over the other?

Zimmerman also comes up, but not being familiar with them and seeing that
they are at the lower end of the price range, I dismissed them as a
 possibility.

Subject: [MBZ] Squeaky Suspension

The right rear of the S500 makes squeaky, or better, the err-err sound any
time the suspension moves.

All of the rubber parts are good and show no noticeable wear. It's readily
apparent by just pushing down on the bumper, even more so if I have a
passenger in the car.

Any suggestions as to ways of quieting it down, short of spritzing it with
soapy water or something of that sort?

I have had this in other MBs, but I don't recall what I did (if anything) to
resolve it.

On a related note, cleaning the connections on the instrument cluster appear
to have sorted out the coolant temperature gauge issue. It's now reading as
expected.

I know. But @ $15 it might make Rusty a couple bucks for the trouble and
it's still a good buy.

I know that would be a real good item to make up the few bucks it takes to
get to the $100 free shipping mark on certain orders.

that he'd burned out some wiring, but he went on to say that the lights are

Subject: [MBZ] Road Trip

In preparing last weekend for our trip to the greater Phoenix area this
week, I noticed that I last changed oil on our '95 E320 7500 miles and more
than a year ago (a problem when you have extended oil changes and don't
drive too much). With some help from a neighbor and his son, we used the
Topsider and changed the oil (Mobil1 0W-40) and filter and rotated the tires
LF - LR, LR - RF, RF - RR, RR - LF.

So, 1224 miles, two doctor's appointments, and a couple of MRIs later, we
are back home. We left about 1030 on Monday morning, made it to Holbrook,
AZ, after the snowstorm had blown through and the roads to that point were
clear. We then abandoned I-40 and took side roads through Heber-Overgaard
and Payson into Chandler, AZ, arriving at 2100. Some of the side roads, like
260, were snow-packed, but the Nokian WRG2s handled things just fine. On the
way back yesterday, we took I-17 north out of Phoenix, had lunch in
Flagstaff, and drove I-40 east to Albuquerque. North on I-25 to Santa Fe and
84/285 and NM 502 brought us back to Los Alamos last night shortly after
2100.

The car performed just fine. 75 mph on the Interstates was enjoyable and,
except for all of the semis on I-40, stressless. Despite this car's cruise
control's setting idiosyncracies, having the cruise control was a big help.
I noticed in Phoenix that the upshift delay started working, but didn't take
time to try to clear the Check Engine Light.

The neurosurgeon there said I have severe compression of my spinal cord and
said he wanted me in a cervical collar immediately in case I fall or am in
an automobile accident before the surgery. His staff is arranging the
surgery, which will be in 3 - 6 weeks.

My '83 300D already does that. I head out for the all night restaurant
after midnight, start thinking about something, finally look around, and I'm
sitting in front of the Huddle House 12 miles away.

Hey Rusty:
What am I supposed to do with this liter and half of Pentofrost NF? I asked
you to send me either that or G-05 antifreeze; both of which were listed on
your parts program. Pentofrost dilutes 50-50 and that's hardly enough
volume for an AF change. Also, it has silicates. I thought silicates were
not used anymore because of silicate dropout.
Thanks,
Gerry

 Yup.

There were two versions, too. A Mercedes-Benz Product (or something to

If you look closely, there is a part number on the sticker. You can order

 Thank you for the offer.

Tom Hanson makes mention that there are 15 inch steel wheels that take
hub caps. I want to keep the hub cap look, but have trepidation about
investing good cash in rims that will have obsolete tire sizes in a
few years. I can buy obsolete tires now for big cash or spend
reasonable cash on a larger size tire on a more modern wheel

And that's $23.50 less than Adsit wants for used wheels!

What about 2104010602?
I didn't even think of new, perhaps foolishly, when I bought one for $70
last month.

Indeed! Our newest automobile is 17-18 years old. Some of us have 30
