Dan may have gotten lucky finding a close match but it’s not so easy to do. If
you can’t find try global upholstery supply in California. They should have
anything you need for about $20 per yard.

Well the good news is that the headliner turned out great!

From my experience, those pumps can run and appear fine but not put out the
correct volume of fuel. They are supposed to put out so many cubic centimeters
per 15 seconds. I don’t know what the figures should be on your car.

2019-03-12 Thread Dimitri via Mercedes
The 78 240D has already been to the Q so I’m less excited about bringing it.

I don’t care for mechanical work but I do it because I have to. I’d much rather
do rust repair and I’m much more competent at it than mechanical work!

I’m dreaming of the day I can get that Adenauer on the road!

Re: [MBZ] Finnie Fun!

2019-02-23 Thread Dimitri via Mercedes
While not strictly necessary, I find that a POR-15 repair lasts longer if the
rust is completely removed with multiple applications of naval jelly. Over a
period of 1-2 days, the rust can be completely dissolved giving you a nice rust
free, pickled surface which is optimal for POR-15 adhesion.

Jaime refinished the wood in his w108 250S that he recently sold on BAT. The
finish was pretty much spot on to what original would have looked like. I
believe he used a catalyzed urethane based clear coat in a satin finish- or
used some kind of gloss reducer additive? Might have greater durability than a
spar varnish but I’m far from experienced in such matters.

[MBZ] W124 casualty?

2019-01-23 Thread Dimitri via Mercedes
A woman crashed into my brother’s ‘89 300TD today. She hit the driver’s front
fender and wheel. The fender is toast as is turn signal assembly. The shock
popped out of the top of shock tower and the wheel seems a bit off.

The body work is fairly minimal- new fender etc. but we are concerned about
front end damage. Any thoughts? What could have been damaged beyond mount for
shock?LCA?

There is something icky about it. Paint over everything doesn’t help. The left
lower quarter appears to have had a rust repair but the contours were done
wrong-too squared off. This is a common way to fix rust by amateurs with no

long term use of water in place of coolant resulted in head corrosion.

Yes they are basically intact but someone has been there before and partially
re-did them so I’m not sure how great they will be to use as patterns!

[MBZ] Upholstering Seats

2019-01-02 Thread Dimitri via Mercedes
I’m thinking of tackling complete seat upholstery on my 73 BMW 2002. I don’t
mean just buying the seat covers but sewing them up in leather. I’ve never done
such a thing but I’ve watched loads of YouTube videos. I have an industrial
walking foot machine and I’ve done carpet binding on the same car and various
other small leather projects. Is this crazy on my part? Anyone done this
before? Will I be in over my head?
