[MBZ] Americans... Remember to VOTE NEXT TUESDAY

2006-10-30 Thread Frank Pembleton
While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a
truck and dies.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

Welcome to heaven, says St. Peter. Before you settle in, it seems there
is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so
we're not sure what to do with you.

No problem, just let me in, says the man.

Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do
is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you
can choose where to spend eternity.

Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven, says the senator.

I'm sorry, but we have our rules.

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes
down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself
in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse
and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians
who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake
his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at
the expense of the people.

They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar
and champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who
has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a
good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator
rises...

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter
is waiting for him.

Now it's time to visit heaven.

So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving
from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time
and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now
choose your eternity.

The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: Well, I would never
have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would
be better off in hell.

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down,
down to hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a
barren land covered with waste and garbage.

He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and
putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder.
I don't understand, stammers the senator. Yesterday I was here
and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and
caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now
there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What
happened?

The devil looks at him, smiles and says, Yesterday we were
campaigning.. Today you voted.

One small problem I sold it to a friend of Sexton's who quickly

He abandoned the car and left me with the debris..4 perfect Bundt

Any takers? Any ideas on getting rod of this?

Seeing as it does appear that my SD's motor has expired, and seeing as I
need a vehicle on a daily basis, I may end up buying another car quick.

I have a line on an 89? 560sel, cosmetically wonderful (of course) but
unfortunately it has been sitting for about two years and started only
infrequently during that time. The guy selling it (agent for the PO, a
wealthy local resort owner) admits the valve seals are bad and it smokes
when cold. Beyond that it's the usual Sgt. Shultz routine.

In all my years on the lists I've been a diesel guy so I pretty much ignored
V8 talk. I DO know to check if the chains have been done, and the state of
the exhaust and cats, and other obvious stuff for a parked car like the
waterpump, belts, alternator, stuff that may have accelerated decrepitude
from sitting.

Another other points?

It's a kicking good deal BUT we all know the way that goes

Air Transport
Inaccurate Airport Diagrams May Have Played Role in Comair Crash
Aviation Week Space Technology
09/18/2006, page 39

Frances Fiorino
Washington

Printed headline: Comair Pilots Proceed With 'Extreme Caution'

Airport maps that did not accurately reflect runway and taxiway
reconstruction may have been a factor in the Aug. 27 crash of Comair Flight
5191.

Comair's Flight Dept. last week warned flight crews to exercise extreme
caution operating at Lexington (Ky.) Blue Grass Airport. They were asked
not to follow the airport taxi diagrams, but to follow airport markers and
signs in place.

Investigators learned the flight crew of Flight 5191 was using Jeppesen
charts issued Jan. 27, which would not have depicted construction changes
made up to the date of the accident, including a 325-ft. shift to the
southwest of Runway 22, the main runway, and changes to taxiway connectors
to Runways 22 and 26.

For reasons yet to be determined, the Flight 5191 crew in pre-dawn darkness
had turned onto the unlit 3,500-ft. GA VFR day-only Runway 26 instead of the
7,000-ft. Runway 22. The CRJ100 ran out of concrete and crashed into a
perimeter fence, killing 48 of the 49 people on board (AWST Sept. 4, p.
33).

Comair issued the warning to pilots upon noting that an updated Blue Grass
diagram--issued by Jeppesen on Sept. 8--did not depict the actual airport
layout. There were no published updates in the intervening period, according
to the airline.

The problem is that the latest version is really a glimpse into the future:
it shows how the airport runways and taxiways will look when the
multimillion-dollar airport enhancement project is completed. It will be
accurate in about 6-8 weeks from now, says a Comair official.

The FAA periodically publishes and updates airport diagrams in various U.S.
regions. The data, in turn, are given to service providers such as Jeppesen,
which also supplies the information to pilots. Blue Grass Airport Executive
Director Michael Gobb notes that it is the airport operator's responsibility
to provide accurate information about construction plans and its progressive
phases to the FAA.

FAA official Laura Brown says Blue Grass supplied the agency with
information about the new field design on June 23. The FAA passed the data
on to the charting companies, following normal procedures. Brown adds that
when actual conditions vary from the published changes in diagrams, it is an
airport's responsibility to issue Notices to Airman (Notams) through the
FAA's Flight Service Stations.

Between published updates, changes affecting flight operations are also
available to crews in the form of ATIS (airport terminal information
service), and it is the pilot's responsibility to check all Notams as well
as the ATIS.

Gobb notes that Blue Grass airport construction alerts have regularly aired
on ATIS since the airport enhancement project started in October 2003, and
that Notams also have been issued during the construction, including those
about inoperative lighting and taxiways.

According to the FAA, on the morning of the accident, ATIS Bravo at 05:54
a.m. local time advised that 22 was the landing and departing runway and
Pilots, use caution for construction on the air carrier ramp.

Gobb said the Flight 5191 crew had two alternatives. The first was to taxi
from the main taxiway across Runway 26, and onto a connector taxiway (A5),
which leads to departure Runway 22. (The updated chart would have been
inconsistent with actual runway environment; the connector taxiway they were
to have followed does not appear on it.) The second option was a takeoff
from the unlit, inactive Runway 26, which tragically is what happened. Gobb
said the blue lights of the connector taxiway were on, as were runway end
identifier lights and touchdown zone lights for Runway 4/22. Another route,
an extended taxiway connecting Runways 26 and the original threshold
position of Runway 22--and which was depicted on the January-dated
charts--was closed. A Notam had been issued and flashing red lights on top
of low-profile barricades indicated such, says Gobb.

Construction of a replacement taxiway leading to the shifted threshold of
Runway 22 was to start Aug. 28, the day after the accident. It's now been
delayed to allow investigators to examine the runway/taxiway intersection
and airport maps. The NTSB investigation is ongoing, and this week it
expects to issue an update.

Classic was no more. I've been looking into this because not only is 867mhz a
bit slow for X-Plane, a flight simulator, but my box's video card is not fast
enough to render the scenery fast enough.

Dear Den:
I guess Klebbie was caught red-handed stealing posts from Todd's list,
and didn't like it when I told everyone.

I take pride in being Banned from Banned!

My New Balance 643s, bought new last month, say Made in USA of imported
materials. There was even a tag on them explaining and sort of
apologizing
for the imported materials. It's the first pair of made in USA
running
shoes I've bought since some silly expensive Brooks I bought in 1982.
($45 on sale, which was 13 hours' wages for me at the time).

I can't find any USA dress shoes in local stores, my $60 (1991)
Florsheims
were made in USA, but that factory closed in the 1990s. If I want to
match
the quality of those shoes today, I have to order them on the net and
pay about $400.
