Nice!  I'll bet that broken bolt comes out easy.  I'd try cutting a slot with a

If you can get the seals (I was able to about ten years ago) I'd do the side

I used to have a Datsun B3000 or something like that, early 80's econobox sedan.

The tune-up procedure for setting the ignition timing was to note the current
setting, perform a 0-60 run and note the time required.  Adjust a small amount
in either direction, perform 0-60 run, compare original and new time, and
proceed with further adjustment until the fastest time was achieved.

Could be.  Rotate engine so that cylinder is "up" and then remove the valve

If the tank screen is plugged, you can reverse the lines in the engine bay and
bypass the screen, but then your filters may plug up pretty quickly and you'll
run out of fuel early, with about a quarter of a tank left.

Well the good news is it only takes about 30 minutes to get the engine out, and
another hour or two to split the engine block and see what's going on.

I'm trying to remember what's at the other end of that push rod and I'm drawing
a blank.

Either the cup at the outer end is bad, or something is loose.  I hope the
bolts aren't pulling out of the head, been there done that, but about 30 years
ago.

Has the cost of the materials gone up that much?  A few years ago I paid $12k

with full water and ice damn sheild on entire roof, and extra strapping for

When she comes back with your batree, your condition will be that she and her
family can thank you by promising to vote correctly from now on.

Today during my ruck walk around the neighborhood, a black Discovery passed me
a few times, and then finally stopped to ask directions.  I could tell from the
ladies accent she was from off.

I gave them directions, then asked they were looking at houses to buy.  They
were. I informed them how they must vote if they moved into my neighborhood.
The whole car full erupted in laughter, and they assured me they were right
there with me.

Correct, if you believe in evolution, then it should be easy to understand that
the virus will mutate (evolve) to become (a) more infectious and (b) less
deadly.  Killing the host is not a good way to spread, just want to reproduce
and spread.  Survival of the fittest.  The first wave of the original virus has
killed off the most vulnerable, that alone should reduce the deaths this time

Remove / install balance shaft, replace if necessary (engine 272 removed)

Equipped with M272 or M273 Engine Check Engine Light On / Fault Codes

This is due to the positioning of the timing chain driven camshafts
relative to the crankshaft and can be caused by a worn sprocket on the
balance shaft on engine M272 or by a worn guide (idler) gear for the
 timing chain on engine M273.

Re: [MBZ] '85 TD

2021-06-29 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
When were you in Florida?  When will you pass by Carolina again?  I feel left
out

Ok, so you've identified one possibility, bad switch.  I don't think this could
be a clogged intake.

Other possibility: turbo waste gate failed, and you do indeed have an over
boost condition, and your Pistons will MELT.  Need to get a boost gauge to test
that theory.

Last, the over boost solenoid is faulty, and shutting off signal to ALDA when
it shouldn't.

Re: [MBZ] 87 300D in the Raleigh LKQ

2021-06-29 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
Probably totalled by the INSCO, now a salvage title, owner dumped it.  Sad.
Minor fender bender to my '95 124 resulted in total, salvage title.  Damage to
front left fender, front bumper, signal light.  That was enough to total the
car.

Re: [MBZ] OT: 1952 Hudson Hornet

2021-06-29 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
My dad had a '48 Hudson that he sold a few years ago.  North Dakota car, not a
bit of rust, totally original.  Ran just fine, it was his summer cruiser for a
few years.  When he was ready to sell, I tried to convince him to give BaT a
try, sent him an auction where a similar car sold for over $15k.

He was not keen on that, wanted to meet the buyer face to face to close the
deal, so he sold it on Craigslist.  I think he got about $7k for it, new owner
was some young gear head that was really into big old cars, had a little
collection going.  I would not be surprised if this guy enjoyed it for a bit
then flipped it for a lot more than he paid.

Re: [MBZ] AC work this past weekend

2021-06-28 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
I think Pierre has an opinion on that, you can probably guess.

His advice was too make sure you got the proper manifold o-rings for the GM
compressor, they have some metal in them.

I think you can get standard GM compressor and flip the rear cap around to make
the oil flow correct for the upside down install in the Benz, save a few
bennies?  There is some trick to using those old compressors.

2021-06-28 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
Maybe I should follow your lead and buy some jalopy from Hoovie?

The AC was not working and I knew that going into the deal.

But now that you mention it, one of the glow plugs has died, so I need to do
that job now.  Dan's son or the previous owner had just paid for that job,
there was a receipt with the car, but I'll bet the garage that did that used
some cheap brand of plugs.

2021-06-09 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
A few weeks ago, I was following a Porch Boxster.  Older grey haired couple,
top down.  Speed limit was 40, I was probably going about 45 and coming up on
them from behind.

The light turned yellow, I stepped on the gas, he stepped on his brakes.  He
stopped midway through the intersection, blocking the cross traffic.  I
transitioned to braking as fast as I could, had to hit the shoulder to avoid
rear ending the Boxster.  Anti-Lock brake system got a good work out.  Ended up
almost next to him.

I still don't understand why he decided to try to stop for the yellow light.
He decided to back up to let cross traffic flow, almost backed into me.
