My intermittent squeal ended up being the alternator. I changed belts thinking that might be the issue. It wasn’t. The squeal goes away after about 15 seconds of driving. It is getting worse but goes away for a while if I spray the pulley are with some lube. Time for a rebuild I think.

I bought and and installed Lemforder ball joints in my 1983 240D a couple of weeks ago. I took the arms off the car, clamped them in my big vice and used the generic press from local Advance Auto. I used 1/2 breaker bar and 3’ pipe. It was strenuous but they both went in straight and true.

I installed the new engine mounts today. The old ones looked like they were in good shape except they were giving almost no vertical support. The new mounts were almost an inch higher than the old ones and compressed down about 1/2 as much as the old ones when installed. The new ones are
