[MBZ] [Mercedes] Accident, how to determine fair value?
Tom, Expect a ridiculously low-ball number from the adjuster. I had a 1976 300D 'totaled' because they couldn't find the parts for it (fender, air filter, headlamp, bumper, etc, which I actually already had in my backyard as spares. She offered me $750 and I could keep the car. I always insist that I keep the car. I laughed at her offer and told her to start with $1,500 and we would have a serious conversation. She immediately said If you will settle for $1,500 we can settle today. I picked up my check an hour later. This was a year ago...I'm still driving the car. Ken If I can't fix it, it don't get fixed MB's up to year 1976...too many to list. (Well...also one big boat 126 1982 300SD)
Re: [MBZ] GUNS AND THE REALITY
I don't know about Waffle Houses in North Georgia, but where I live in the Atlanta metro area...Conyers in particularWaffle Houses here have yellow signs that prohibit entering the Waffle House with a firearmtake time to read that yellow sign high up on the wall on the end of the parking lot. Only one Waffle House in my town has the old white sign...I don't go into Waffle Houses that have the yellow sign. If I can't go in with my Colt .45, I don't go in. Same with Pawn Shops that have No Loaded Firearms Permitted on the front door or window. What am I supposed to use for power steering fluid? Is it AT fluid and if so, basic GM type fluid? I stuck my finger in it and that is certainly what it appears to be. Second question - on the side of the resevoir there is a line which I assume marks the appropriate level. Is this the right level hot or cold? My level seems a bit low (an inch or more below the line) but I am reluctant to overfill it. [MBZ] Convince Me
I have always wanted one of these old diesel beasts Randy, Just my opinion, but I think the 114/115 series, especially the diesel is the best car Mercedes ever built. The major fault I find with the design is that they built the car around the heater blower motor. Ordinarily I will not buy a Mercedes later than 1976the last of the 114/115 series. I have 720,000 miles on a 1970 220D. A 76 300D is my daily driver. I did venture into buying an 82 300SD which has one cylinder with zero compression and a leakdown test of 100% pressure loss...a hole in the piston? I haven't had the interest in fixing it even though it starts instantly (major skip, of course) simply because, to me, the 126 is like driving a big boat. The '76 300D is much more nimble and maneuverable which translates into easy U turns and parking. I do think $7K is too much for a '75 (the 300D you mention is probably a '75 rather than a '74...I think the 300D first came out in 1975...I could be wrong. Just my opinion, folks. Don't be mad at me. Ken If I can't fix it, it don't get fixed
